Hey everyone!

I have created a new FB Yoga page as I am not able to access this one easily. It is linked to my previous personal page that has been disabled. The new page is called SH YOGA if you would like to follow that one instead. This is its new Profile photo.

This page will be discontinued.

01/27/2024

Hi everyone - I have created a *NEW* personal page as a result of my other one being disabled. Below is the profile picture I am using. If you receive a friend request from me, it's me šŸ˜Š.

This Yoga biz page is still active but I am not able to check messages regularly as I can only access it on desktop.
I am working on a solution but it's not straightforward as I can't log in to this FB page to disconnect it from my existing account and website.

Thank you for patience while I work on resolving this issue.

A regular yoga practice helps maintain and improve the range of motion in the spine.
The emphasis on the breath and controlled transitions helps in preventing stiffness and discomfort and contributes to better posture, core stability and overall body awareness.

Do you have a favorite balance pose?

Mobility work is key!

Hatha yoga is an excellent place to start.

Hatha helps in developing physical strength, flexibility, and mental clarity. It is slower paced style of practice and grounding in nature. It focuses on posture and breathing techniques.

If you have any questions, please leave them below or feel free to message me šŸ™‚

Happy practicing!

Hey! If you are newer to my page, my name is Sabrina. This is my horse ZintĆ©. Iā€™m an FEI Dressage Rider and Yoga teacher in Canada and specialize in Yoga for Riders.

šŸ“ I have trained Z up to Grand Prix, from a young horse prospect. Itā€™s been quite a journey and one that has been absolutely amazing. Yoga has been integral to my training off the horse.

šŸ§˜šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļøYoga helped me get stronger and more flexible, but it also helped me learn things about myself. It helped me gain confidence, calm my mind, regulate my breath, develop better feel in the saddle and improved my body awareness.

I wanted to share the knowledge Iā€™d gained and help other riders through the magic of the practice. In 2014 I became a certified Yoga teacher and began teaching soon after. In 2019, I started Yoga for Riders.

I now have an online platform with classes tailored for equestrians and a community I absolutely adore.

Iā€™d love to hear about you! Introduce yourself in the comments. How long have you been riding? Do you practice yoga?

POV: ā€œIā€™m not flexible, I canā€™t do yoga. ā€œ

Neither was I and if this is the story you tell yourself, read on.

Iā€™ve been riding most of my life. I have a lot of external rotation in my legs, tight hips and my hamstrings arenā€™t nearly as open as Iā€™d want them to be.

There are shapes and poses that I simply canā€™t do easily and some that are just not accessible. And itā€™s been over 10 years.

So I practice. And I work at it. The same way I train my horse and keep chipping away at things every time Iā€™m in the saddle.

If I get into full splits one day: great. If I donā€™t, life will go on.
I will probably never be able to get into pigeon on the right side as effortlessly as on the left. And thatā€™s ok. It still has benefit even if it doesnā€™t look the same on both sides. Our bodies arenā€™t perfectly symmetrical anyway. ā €ā €ā €ā €ā €ā €ā €ā €ā €
Keep practicing and enjoy the journey. Most of all: be kind to yourself.

Do you write notes in your phone? This is one of mine from 2020.
I was probably thinking about a theme for class.

Movement IS medicine.

Start looking at your practice and your workouts as ways to feel better, to heal and to take care yourself. Itā€™s a very different feeling to tell yourself you GET to do something rather than you HAVE to do something.

Mindset shifts go a long way.

You are one practice away from a better mood ā˜€ļø

We are trying the Grand Prix this summer: a lifelong dream and a long journey.
A journey Iā€™ve taken my time with, and a dream I wasnā€™t sure I was capable of.

After taking a 6 year break from the show ring, we went back in at the Inter levels in late 2021. Weā€™ve been really hard at work the last 2 years. Iā€™ve been learning how to train the Grand Prix, how to improve it, how to ride it.

Getting to this level is amazing and also bittersweet.

There is a quote by Marianne Williamson: ā€˜Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.ā€™

The dreams that scare you are what change your life šŸ’–

If youā€™re not able to get to a practitioner for an adjustment or massage therapy, you can do self-myofascial work at home with MFR balls and a foam roller.

I will be sharing tutorials this week with simple techniques you can start to implement at home.

Keep your eyes on my grid and set notifications if you donā€™t want to miss them!

Changes happen over time. Stay consistent!

04/20/2023

When I first started, I couldnā€™t get into pigeon pose comfortably. Downdog felt like a lot of work and the standing sequences felt so hard!

I kept going because of the feeling I got after my first class. I felt calm and clear. I slept so well and woke up with so much energy. That feeling kept me coming to my mat. Again and again.

I also started noticing changes in my riding and that was incredibly exciting.

Itā€™s over a decade later and while Iā€™ve gotten much more flexible and strong, I still canā€™t do splits and canā€™t get into some advanced postures that require really open hamstrings and hips.

And you know what? Thatā€™s ok.
Itā€™s not about the pose. Itā€™s about what we learn.

With practice, developing better body awareness will allow you to feel what part of your body is working without having to look.

It will help you feel exactly what your horse is doing underneath you and better feel its center of gravity.

Letā€™s use the leg yield as an example. Are the haunches trailing or are you having a hard time keeping your horse straight as he/she moves sideways?
Developing better body awareness will help you feel more quickly how you need to adjust your body.
Are you sitting crooked? Are you collapsing your hip? Is your outside rein on, are both your legs on? Where are you looking?

With time and practice, you will be able to feel which muscles you need to activate or soften to help your horse move straighter and more freely.

ā€˜Horses will change your life. Great horses will change the shape of your life.ā€™

I donā€™t think I would have believed anyone if they told me how much my life would shift after meeting ZintĆ©.
Itā€™s interesting looking back knowing what I know now.
Getting ZintĆ© was a bold move. Iā€™d never trained a young horse up the levelsā€¦yet I bought him as a coming 4 year old, almost 17 hand stallion. Genius šŸ«

I thought it was a great idea because my intuition told me to go for for it.
He bolted. He bucked. He was super athletic. He was fiery.
There was absolutely no place for ego and Iā€™d never felt so overwhelmed.
So I sent myself on a mission to get stronger and fitter.

I found Yoga and I never looked back.
What an incredible journey itā€™s been.

Years later and many many hours in the tack, heā€™s my Grand Prix horse.
And with many hours on my yoga mat, I did my yoga teacher training. I started teaching in 2015. Teaching helped me find my voice, and my purpose.

We just never know where life will take us.

Yoga starts for a lot of us as a physical practice.

I started because I wanted to improve my riding. I wanted to get stronger and more flexible. Committing to this practice gave me a lot more than that.

It improved my feel in the saddle and my connection to my horse. It taught me how to breathe and quiet my mind.

It taught me that I am strong.
It also taught me to let go.
It gave me a better sense of self and improved my confidence.

It taught me that I can achieve what I set my mind to.
Most of all, it helped me find my purpose.
Teaching helped me find my voice.

What changes have you noticed since beginning your practice?

A regular yoga practice has many benefits for riders.

āœ”ļøStrengthens your body
āœ”ļøBalances out physical asymmetries
āœ”ļøImproves range of motion and flexibility
āœ”ļøCalms the mind
āœ”ļøImproves focus

āœ… Think of the muscles you need to ride a transition or a proper half halt. Getting stronger in your core helps you ride these transitions more easily and more subtly.

āœ… Think of how you respond if you are nervous when you ride. Or maybe you lose your patience or get frustrated when youā€™re learning something. Using your breath in those moments can help you regulate your emotions. There are a few breathing techniques that help with this.

āļø Yoga helps us not only become stronger and more flexible, but it also teaches us to be in the present. With consistency and time, it helps us to be more connected to our bodies, improves our body awareness and gives us tools we can apply to our riding.

ā–«ļøimproving your posture
ā–«ļøbuilding strength in your legs and improving stability
ā–«ļøstretching the hips and alleviating back pain

Emotionally, heart openers can help:
ā–«ļøreduce stress
ā–«ļøboost self-confidence
ā–«ļøincrease our openness to love

ā€œThe nature of yoga is to shine the light of awareness into the darkest corners of the body.ā€

If it wasnā€™t for ZintĆ© showing me I needed to get stronger, I never would have known how much I needed this. Horses teach us so much about ourselves. Great horses change the shape of our life.

When I started practicing yoga, I truly had no idea the profound shifts it would have on not only my riding, but my life in general.

The biggest shift for me, was how I started to feel INSIDE. My yoga mat quickly became a place for me where I could feel free, work out my inner stuff and just be. I felt calmer, more grounded, more confident and more connected to myself.

When I started teaching in 2015, that feeling I felt is what I wanted to bring to my classes. My intention as a teacher is not only to guide you, but to help you feel your best and gain confidence. So much changes around you, when your inner world shifts.

Would love to hear about your journey. Are you new to yoga, or more seasoned?

Consistency is key.
If you are just getting started, practicing once a week is great. To truly see results long term, aim for 3x a week. It doesnā€™t need to be a long practice to be effective!
If 10 minutes is all you have, itā€™s far better than getting no movement in.

Like and share this post if you find it helpful.

Head over to my profile and download my free guide if youā€™d like 5 poses to get you started.

12/14/2022

I suggest practicing 3x a week.

There are other factors to consider of course:
- How often do you ride?
- How many horses do you ride?
- Do you do resistance training?
- Are you taking regular lessons?

These factors will impact what I would recommend. 3x a week is a good baseline for someone who rides one horse and doesnā€™t workout outside of riding.

Physical and emotional changes happen very quickly with a regular practice. You may even notice you feel better in the tack after your first yoga practice.

Hope this helps! Any questions drop them below šŸ‘‡šŸ»
