Traditionally, Guru Purnima is the annual celebration of the guru. Unfortunately in modern yoga, many gurus have caused a lot of pain through abuse.
Personally, I was part of a lineage where there was sexual abuse, and I see the pain that was caused not only to the people who were personally abused, but to all of us. We were trying to learn a spiritual practice based in ethics from someone who is unethical.
After many years, it finally occurred to me that my gratitude is for the teaching themselves and for the unrecognized South Asian yoga practitioners who kept these teachings alive for millennia. Because of them, we have the incredible opportunity to practice today.
Lifting up an individual teacher is a dangerous game that feels out of alignment with the teachings themselves which focus on equality and liberation for all of us. Twisting the teachings to be about an individual person is a form of egoism.
Similarly, forcing a specific way of practicing or only one lineage is contrary to the expansiveness and inclusiveness of this incredible tradition.
Today I offer my endless gratitude to the teachings themselves and all of those anonymous yoga practitioners who have kept this living treasure alive. Thank you ❤️

I’m so happy to announce that beginning Tuesday, February 13th, there will be a new class added to the schedule - ✨a 5:30 PM Vinyasa! ✨
Vinyasa yoga is a dynamic style of yoga that focuses on uniting movement with breath. It involves a series of fluid and creative sequences that are guided by the cadence of inhales and exhales. Our practice will begin with a grounding pranayama exercise to calm the mind and bring awareness to the body. As we move through the class, we’ll flow through various poses, including standing, balancing, and seated postures. A peak pose will be offered towards the end of the practice, followed by a series of gentle and passive asanas, and a relaxing mini sound meditation to close! 🌙
If you’ve attended one of the summer farm yoga classes, the style is very similar!
This 75-minute class will take place at the lovely You + Me Studio in Qualicum Beach, and warm herbal tea will be offered upon arrival! 🫖
The first class on February 13th is FREE but registration is required.
