Instead of worrying about what to eat/not eat to *shrink* your body, consider focusing on eating foods that *support* your body. Instead of cutting things out, try to include a wide variety of nutritious options (along with some of your fave treats once in a while). Your body will thank you!

Do I LOVE how my body looks in a bikini? Not particularly.

Am I gonna let that hold me back from enjoying an incredible beach vacay with my family? Absolutely not.

You do not need to love every part of you in order to live your best life. You deserve fun and pleasure no matter your size or appearance.

With the recent time change and the days getting longer, I’m dreaming of summer. And it occurred to me that right around this time I’m sure people are starting to think about some restrictive/unrealistic regimen to get “beach ready”.

So here's your annual reminder that you already have a beach body. You do not need to start some new "bikini bod" program to "get ready" for summer. You do not need to "earn" the right to enjoy the beach just as much as anyone else.

Grab your suit, put it on your body, and head to the beach. There! Beach ready. 👙🏖️

Today is Dietitian's Day and it has me reflecting on my profession. While I know in many ways we have had an incredibly positive impact on our patients’/clients’ lives, the profession has historically also done harm.

We have perpetuated the “thin ideal”, that everyone should be striving for thinness at all costs. We have made people in larger bodies feel “less than” and unworthy. We have pushed clients toward restriction and deprivation, leaving people with feelings of failure if they can’t meet our expectations.

This still exists in the profession, but I’m hopeful that we continue to evolve toward a future that looks very different. I am inspired by my colleagues who are doing incredible work advocating for ALL bodies to be honoured. By those who are fighting for a world where everyone, regardless of their size, is allowed to take up space without fear of judgment and shame. Where people can access healthcare without being told to lose weight first.

We have a lot of work to do, but I’m excited to be on this journey with like-minded dietitians as we support each other in this growth process. This is my commitment to doing better.

We’re often taught that we can’t trust ourselves, that we need to be given “rules” to follow in order to know what’s best for our body. I’m here to tell you, you don’t need more rules.

Today is Self-Love Day!

We spend so much of our time fixated on our “flaws”, trying to change all the parts of ourselves we don’t like. We prioritize everything and everyone else, putting ourselves last on the list.

I hope you’re able to remember this more than once a year, but today is a good reminder that YOU are perfect just the way you are. YOU are important. YOUR needs are important.

Self-love can encompass many different things, whether it’s:
❤️ finding opportunities to express your authentic self,
❤️ seeking pleasure from your favourite activities (and foods!),
❤️ finding acceptance of those “flaws”,
❤️ offering yourself some compassion when you make mistakes, or
❤️ trusting yourself to make choices that feel right for you
…among many others!

The more we can foster self-love, the less we need to look for that external validation when it comes to our bodies. We innately understand that we are worthy. Sounds pretty good, right? Take the time to prioritize YOU (today and everyday)!

The holiday season is upon us, and as wonderful as it can be, it can also bring a lot of anxiety.

Whether it's finances, a busy calendar, family dynamics, etc etc…it can be difficult to figure out. Food choices shouldn’t be one of them.

Here's a few things to remember as you navigate eating over the holidays:

✨ You’re allowed to eat for pleasure.
✨ What you eat is no one’s choice but your own. Only you know what you need and want.
✨ Choose the types and amounts of food that you want and that feel good.
✨ Don't skip a meal because you're "saving up" for a big dinner, or because you "went overboard" the day before. Your body still needs energy regularly.
✨ No, you don’t have to “start again” in January. Make the choices that feel good now. Then make the choices that feel good in January.
