A “Hot Topic” In my field of work is “what do you call the people you work with?” I don’t call the people I work with my clients, I call them my friends, my family, my women. I don’t just use those terms out of respect. There was a quote on my old desk that said “it’s your job, but it’s their life” and while I loved the sentiment I couldn’t disagree more. Because it never has been and never will be just a job for me. I truly love and care for my community, those are my friends and family and loved ones. This year I have seen policies and systematic issues on every level let my loved ones slip through the cracks. because of that I have lost so many of my friends and loved ones, especially this year, and yet nothing is ever done about it. Mental health and/ or addictions has taken every single life I’ve lost this year. I have screamed on the top of my lungs to the own detriment of my career begging for change. I may get annoying with all my rants about harm reduction, or the various levels of failing government. But this isn’t just my job this is my life, these are my loved ones. So while you’re getting ready to spend the holidays with your loved ones, please think of mine. Think of how you can help. Write letters to your City Councillors and MLA’s. Donate to the various shelters in your community. Advocate for people. And to the many amazing men in my life please remember you are important and you matter too. Sending love to all my friends and family. This is my life and I will spend the entirety of it fighting for my people 🤍

This year KnotLost wants to say that we are grateful for each and every person who has ever donated to the Knotlost feed a friend program. This year thanks to donations we were able to drop off enough food for two families to have full Thanksgiving meals, including turkey, stuffing, potatoes, buns, gravy, pie, and bananas.
This past Christmas we had provided 6 families with Christmas dinner and baking for 50 women at a local women’s shelter. This has everything to do with our amazing customers and supporters.
The holidays are a hard time for a lot of us but it’s even worse on an empty stomach. Thank you for making such a huge difference in the lives of many!

August 31st
International Overdose Awareness Day.
On this day one year ago my sister Victoria Lucille and I had the City of Regina | Municipal Government covered in Hundreds of posters highlighting the increasing fatal drug poising rates which have been recording breaking for YEARS. We also had 464 Chalk Body Outlines Infront of the Saskatchewan Legislative Building to represent the lives that had been lost last year. We didn’t sleep for DAYS in preparation.

In the last 365 days Fatal Drug Poisonings have yet again SKY ROCKETED. In the last 365 days since then I have responded to 30+ drug poisonings. 3 of which were by far the worst I’ve seen, 1 Fatal. Those are just the ones in Regina that I HAVE responded to. This puts into perspective just how awful this problem has become.

I’m 23 years old and anybody that’s spent anytime around me in the last 8 months knows that I can’t go anywhere or do anything without the constant fear for the safety of those around me wither it be at the bar, the mall, the alley, city hall, at work or even just in my dreams. The weight of this problem is on the shoulders of all of us, we should all be this terrified everyday.

A year ago today I felt like I was screaming to our Municipal and Provincial government to help. After my cries fell upon deaf ears yet again I was then handed the worst, scariest, most painful year of my life as I tried to address this problem on my own along with all the other CBO’s and their employees.

This year I don’t plea. This year I grieve. I grieve the numerous friends and family members I lost this year. I grieve the lives that should’ve been but never will be. I grieve the old me. I grieve the hope I once had. This year I cannot breathe, I cannot eat, I cannot close my eyes. Because I no longer know how to cry for help knowing nobody is listening… after the pain and suffering and loss I witnesssd and experienced this year I will never be the same. But I promise I will never stop fighting for change. I will never stop doing everything I can with everything I have to protect our loved ones.

For anybody who’s administered too much Naloxone to count, who’s done CPR until they can’t feel their arms, who’s had to reach for their loved ones body knowing their gone… I love you. I see you. Your person mattered, their life mattered, what happened mattered.

To A: You changed my life, you changed my world, you taught me perspective, compassion, and perseverance. I’ll forever be sorry I didn’t show up soon enough. I love you and I promise I’m taking everything you taught me to do better and be better for everyone in our community.

Lastly, a huge shoutout to my harm reduction family. I have the most incredibly community/ family that is actively saving lives day in and day out. To all my coworkers at the YWCA, The organizers and Volunteers of the several Camps, The warm meals planning team, and the Warrior women: no amount of thank you’s will ever be enough for the work you do. I love you and you guys are the reason I keep going everyday. I couldn’t learn or grow with a better group of people ❤️ there’s too many to tag so just know I see you 🥰
