Good day amigos,
Pop by Bushwakker Brewing Company in Regina during the month of May to check out a few of my paintings. Two of them are originals and one is a print 😄. Big thanks to this awesome pub for featuring our art every year. I have been able to reach new audiences and have made good friends along the way.

The Bushwakker LOCAL ARTS WALL for the month of May features CRISTIAN BARRENO! Cristian is a visual artist based in Regina, Saskatchewan. He was born and raised in Guatemala where he created his first oil and acrylic paintings. His artwork often pays tribute to his roots by using bright colours and creative patterns and compositions. Many of his creations are semi-realistic landscapes or wildlife. He also paints portraits that celebrate the legacy and culture of many familiar faces.
Some of his work is part of the art collection at First Nations University of Canada. He has been part of multiple community projects and is always interested in learning new art forms such as carving and sculpting. He is always willing to challenge himself to new projects and continues to learn from his personal work and from other artists who inspire him every day.
Enjoy Cristian’s colourful works all this month!

Scott McLeod from Radville Saskatchewan has completed the final touches to his latest piece. I helped create the design and he sculpted it beautifully on granite. This piece is inspired by the Mayan feathered serpent Quetzalcoatl/Kukulcan. “The double symbolism used by the Feathered Serpent is considered allegoric to the dual nature of the deity, where being feathered represents its divine nature or ability to fly to reach the skies and being a serpent represents its human nature or ability to creep on the ground among other animals of the Earth” - Oxford’ encyclopedia.

Check out my two latest pieces at Bushwakker Brewing Company. They will be on display all month of April. Happy spring!

The Bushwakker LOCAL ARTIST WALL for the month of April features the works of CRISTIAN BARRENO. Cristian was born and raised in Guatemala, a country known for its deep roots with the Mayan Culture. This rich heritage has influenced and inspired Cristian since he first started painting using oils and acrylics back in the mid-nineties. Thanks to the help of his brother, Cristian moved to Canada in 2002 and pursued a Bachelor in Business Administration. Since his first weeks in Canada he continued developing his passion for painting and drawing. His themes and colors have constantly evolved, maintaining vivid colors, nonetheless. In each work he tries to achieve story telling or at least provoke a happy smile. During the past few years his wife Addy has been a great comrade in developing new ideas on blank canvases. He is very honoured to see the recognition he has gained in Regina, and plans to continue exploring this skill and encourage others to try creating art. Enjoy his vibrant, colourful works all this month!

Check out Addy’ art this month at Bushwakker Brewing Company.

The Bushwakker LOCAL ARTS WALL October Featured Artist is ADRIANA MALDONADO!
Adriana (Addy) Maldonado is a self- taught visual artist born and raised in Orizaba, Veracruz México. She creates art using different mediums such as acrylic paintings, watercolors, crocheting and more recently, beading. She defines her work as Mexican Folk Art (Art from the heart); the art of ordinary folk to express a cultural identity. Addy loves to paint Mexican cultural icons such as Catrinas (Sugar Skulls), El Corazon (the Heart), Piñatas to name a few. Her love for pets and nature is also represented in her paintings and other art pieces. She often uses vibrant colors to showcase her Mexican style.
In 2012, Addy moved to Regina, Saskatchewan where she now resides. Addy’s love for her native country, culture and roots inspired her to create her first projects here in Regina. Memories of her childhood living with her grandparents in a small town in Mexico are also a source of inspiration for Addy. She often allows her creativity to take her to explore new mediums. Living on the prairies has also opened a new window of ideas and more inspiration to create art.
Enjoy Addy's colourful works all this month. Love the Mando painting!

Hello friends and family. It is a great honor for me to share with you the fantastic work of Scott McLeod. Scott lives in Radville SK., where he has done rock carving almost all his life. His work is truly remarkable and I had the privilege of meeting him and his wife Geeta about ten years ago. Unfortunately Geeta passed away a few months ago, so art has been like a therapy for Scott to cope with the loss of his beloved Geeta.
Scott has always been fascinated with Mayan culture and asked me sometime ago if I could draw something for a 9 feet tall rock. I based my drawing on the deity Gukumatz who is one of the creators in Maya mythology. Mayans associated Gukumatz and his form of a serpent with the natural cycles of life such as life and death, day and night, the cycles of time, to name a few. This design is a humble tribute to Gukumatz and all it represents.
During the past months I have witnessed Scott’s process of creating a carving of this dimension. It requires a high level of skill, talent and physical effort. Scott often mentions that the man is only the instrument of what the rock hides behind. It is very cool to think that there is now a Mayan carving in Radville Saskatchewan. Stay tuned, hopefully we can bring this sculpture to Regina.

“Heart of Sky and Heart of Earth”
Acrylic on Canvas 36” x 48”

Each day Indigenous Mayans thank to the Heart of Sky and Heart of Earth for a new day, for family and friends, and for all blessings Mother Earth provides. Humans are just as equal as all living beings around us, water, earth, air. If we damage those elements, we are damaging ourselves.
These philosophies were very present with me as I was working on this painting. The Sky and and the Earth has such a magnificent beauty here in the prairies.
