“Everyone has heard about the importance of self care. I think one of the most impactful aspects of self care is what we say to ourselves - our self talk.”

It’s September and that means it’s time for using a Therapy Light. You do not need to be diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Disorder to use one as it’s effective for everyone! But of course, if you do have SAD diagnosis this is a reminder to start now and continue until April.

There is a RIGHT way to use a Therapy Light. First off let’s start with what kind. It is recommended to get the 10,000 lux.

How to use?

First thing in the morning for 20 minutes and you will receive even more benefit if you drink your coffee while sitting in front of the light. After this do not turn your light on or use it for light as the Therapy Light sets your circadian rhythm. (If you are diagnosed with Bipolar it is important to not use beyond 10minutes).

Enjoy your Therapy Light! I recommend this treatment to everyone that lives here as we tend to live with a lot of overcast skies in the fall and winter months.

What is the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)?

The Safe and Sound Protocol is the practical application of Polyvagal Theory. The SSP is a clinical intervention designed to help the nervous system better receive, process and respond to the cues and signals from the world around us, leading to more frequent and accessible states of regulation.

The program is derived from nearly four decades of research on the relationship between the autonomic nervous system and social-emotional processes. It is designed to stimulate nervous system regulation by exercising and systematically challenging the auditory system with specifically processed music.

We humans appear to be meaning-seeking creatures who have had the misfortune of being thrown into a world devoid of intrinsic meaning. One of our major tasks is to invent a meaning sturdy enough to support a life and to perform the tricky maneuver of denying our personal authorship of this meaning. Thus we conclude instead that it was “out there” waiting for us. Our ongoing search for substantial meaning systems often throws us into crises of meaning.

More individuals seek therapy because of concerns about meaning in life. The complaints take many different forms: for example, “My life has no coherence,“ “I have no passion for anything”, “Why am I living? To what end?” “Surely life must have some deeper significance.” “I feel so empty – watching TV every night makes me feel so pointless, so useless.”

“Probably the biggest insight… is that happiness is not just a place, but also a process. Happiness is an ongoing process of fresh challenges, and it takes the right attitudes and activities to continue to be happy.” –Ed Diener
