What is the psychology of colour?
The psychology of colour in basic terms is studying how colours can affect our mood, emotions, and feelings. In recent findings it is said that the use of colour or colour psychology dates back as far as the ancient Egyptians however most people who are familiar with this concept are probably more aware of Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist known for his developments in this study and is one of the prominent leaders in the area.
In business, advertising and marketing the psychology of colour is used to help evoke feelings and emotions such as happiness, anger, immediacy, and even hunger. Take a close look at the colour choices restaurants, stores, and other businesses use in their logos and branding next time you come across them. They have intentionally used the colour palettes to encourage certain emotions associated with those colour choices.
I am not a marketing guru, or a businessperson. I am a gardener, and I am exploring different colours and how to incorporate them into your garden to help evoke feelings or emotions of peace, tranquility, mystery, calmness, or whatever other emotions you are looking to represent in your garden space. Each week I will post a colour and explore the emotions associated with this colour and some of the flowers and plants you can use in your own garden to evoke these feelings and emotions. It’s time to colour our world!
It’s the first day of spring, the beginning of a new season. Spring has always been my favourite season. I love the mucky muddiness as the ground thaws and the excitement I experience as I explore my garden and see what new signs of growth I will see from my perennials and fall bulbs I planted. There is a sense of hope, excitement, and growth as I watch my seeds germinate and start to form from seedlings to full plants. I start to notice more wildlife, sunshine and warmer weather. In this season I also have a birthday and get to celebrate another year around the sun.
Spring can also represent starting anew. Letting go of the old and allowing new things to blossom physically and tangibly but also within ourselves. Comment below or take this time to reflect- what is something you would like to “blossom” within yourself during this period? Maybe it is kindness, or love or maybe it is developing more dedication to get out for walks with nicer weather. Whatever it is today marks the start of a new beginning. 🌱🖤🌷
Absolutely love these 🖤🌿
Love the look of this winter rose 🌹
Sun catcher with dried florals and plant materials. The red cockscomb really discoloured the one, but I’m happy how they turned out regardless.
Thriving despite it being December 12! Typically, by now those spikes would be long gone. Maybe I’ll get a dracaena Christmas “tree” this year. I’m tempted to bring my spikes in but there is no room in the inn.
I saw this on a gardening group I follow and had to share. I laughed really hard at #5 because I actually washed a spring mix salad container earlier today haha
December 1, 2021- winter rose 🌹 Do you still have blooms in your garden?
The witch is a witchin’ 🧙♀️ All of these seeds are tediously hand harvested from my perennial and annual flowers and plants. Some of these seeds will be available for sale coming soon. Stay tune! 🌿🖤🧙♀️
Starting to think about the holidays yet? Some people are so hard to buy for...
If your friends and family don't need more socks or monogrammed bathrobes, consider giving them something truly unique: a piece of nature.
Lambton Wildlife Inc. is working to expand the Sydenham River Nature Reserve by 100 acres. The reserve protects an important piece of southern Ontario's Carolinian forest, whose existence shelters native pollinators, birds, turtles, fish, and countless other organisms. If you need a gift for someone who loves fishing, gardening, or just being outdoors, consider making a donation in their name towards an initiative that sustains what they love.
While no donation amount is too small to help protect this incredibly rare piece of habitat, portions are available in the following denominations:
One share: $75
Two shares: $150
Quarter acre: $375
Half acre: $750
Full acre: $1,500
Go to lambtonwildlife.com to find out more and to donate. If you would like an e-certificate you can customize for the recipient, send an email to [email protected].
Last bit of colour in the garden. I did also get one lonely raspberry from my raspberry bush but I ate it 🙃
