Ukrainian non-profit with Sask. connections is providing support to war-torn country When Russia invaded Ukraine in February, Lana Nicole Niland was at her home in Kyiv, listening to the wail of air raid sirens. Five days later the Saskatchewan-born woman began Ukrainian Patriot, an organization working to provide badly needed supplies to the war-torn country.

I happened to be wearing my Slava Ukraini shirt today when we were finally able to send our first fundraising donation! With your help, we raised $348.63 in the last few weeks to send directly to Ukraine via Ukrainian Patriot! My family rounded it up to $500 and I’m restocked and ready to make some more! I am 2nd generation Canadian, with grandparents who fled Ukraine from the Soviets almost 100 years ago. This cause could not be closer to my heart. I wish I had learned Ukrainian to be able to understand all the traditional songs, prayers, and speeches I took for granted throughout my entire childhood. I did learn Ukrainian dancing as a child, and I can eat my weight in perogies like any good Ukrainian can. But as an adult, I want more. And I want to DO more for those with whom I share blood but never met because they stayed behind in beautiful Ukraini. Thank you so much for supporting this cause. 💛💙💛💙

Anti-Bullying Pink Shirt Day is a profound movement that began in Canada to combat bullying and promote inclusiveness. But you don't have to wear this shirt only once a year... EVERYDAY should be Pink Shirt Day!

The original pink shirt event was sparked in Nova Scotia in 2007 after Chuck McNeill was bullied for wearing a pink polo shirt on the first day of school. Classmates David Shepherd and Travis Price bought and distributed 50 pink shirts in solidarity with the 9th grader to show support for Chuck's choice to wear what he wants without ridicule and to break gender stereotypes. The movement has since snowballed to represent standing up against any and all types of bullying or discrimination. Join us by wearing your pink shirt this February, and beyond!

If you’ve been waiting to hear some numbers, I apologize for the wait… the truth is that a creator like myself is the furthest thing from an accountant and it took me entirely too long to sort all this out! My brain is mush, but here it is! This total represents proceeds from a few rounds of sales, along with my newly popular fundraiser design. AND we were able to make the donations on through Nutrien’s employee donation match program! Normally, Nutrien will match employees’ donations throughout the year, but on that day, they matched at 1.5x up to a total of $5000 annually. (We had $4950 remaining for them to match through these donations.) A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who supported these causes by purchasing my designs and also to Nutrien for being a generous pillar in our community and a great employer to boot.

National Truth and Reconciliation Day. It’s heavy and it’s long overdue. If you do nothing else, please read the calls to action and choose one you can personally work toward. Every Indigenous person you know is still currently experiencing fallout from the residential school experience. First, simply listen and learn all the truths you can. Then, earnestly work toward reconciliation with your heart and with your actions. We are all responsible for being part of the solution. 🧡

Unbelievably grateful for the support of this fundraising campaign! I’m still digging out from under tons of orders from last week. I believe this shirt and its message should not only be worn on Sept 30th (Orange Shirt Day), but this should be in your regular clothing rotation in order to keep the message front and center.

I designed this screen printed shirt with the input of local Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Indigenous educators. The Cree words roughly translate to mean "Every Child Matters." The dreamcatcher is meant to represent our awakening to this horror and, more importantly, our collective effort to help stop the nightmares that have persisted out of the residential school experience. Through Reconciliation, we can work toward alleviating the generational fallout that continues to occur.

Because this design is for a specific fundraising campaign, all proceeds minus costs will go to charity. In this case, funds will go to local initiatives that benefit Indigenous youth, such as the Core Neighbourhood Youth Coop and other organizations that benefit Indigenous Peoples. Feel free to share with me any other worthy initiatives you know of, as I'm always looking to add great causes to my list.
