Friends
We sadly announce the death of the founder of The Cheesecake Cafe, Robert (Bob) Beeson.
For 35 years, Bob guided the Cafes through both good times and troubled waters.
Throughout it all he maintained his passion for delicious food, good times and genuine hospitality.
He always strived to do the right thing even when it wasn't the easiest thing.
Bob was a great guy and will be missed by his restaurant family - past and present.

Friday Shelter Spotlight - Meet "Hulk" File 2023-148-2558
Love big dogs? Then Hulk is your guy!
Hulk was found on Hwy 16 on his own on 2023/NOV/15 and no owner came for him. Hulk is a big boy who loves food and treats. He is very food motivated and sits so nice for treats. Don't let his size and loud bark scare you away, he is a big loveable teddy bear. Hulk can get a little excited and doesn't know his own size sometimes so older kids would be best for him. He would love to have a new home for Christmas!
Interested in fostering or adopting?

Anyone interested in fostering or adopting will be asked to submit an "Interest to Adopt/Foster" form. Once we have the completed form back we can reach out to a local rescue to see if they could facilitate the adoption/fostering.

If you or someone you know would like to attend this dinner event, please click the link to find more information.
Alternatively if you would like to help and support the 27th Annual Christmas Dinner, we have provided the following information with a link to Doreen. ā¤
"As some of you know, Ron and I host the Annual Free Christmas Dinner in Stony Plain. This dinner provides a meal for anyone who otherwise wouldnāt get a Christmas dinner or would be alone on Christmas. Last year we fed 186 people. Iām so grateful for the Stony Plain United Church for providing us with a kitchen and seating area. Also grateful for the Stony Plain Kinsmen for their support. Iāve already had more people register for the Christmas dinner than usual, so Iām reaching out for help with purchasing the food. If you have an extra ham, turkey, vegetables, dessert, etc. or would like to give us a gift card for Superstore, Costco or any other grocery store, we would really appreciate it. The need is great and with the extra cost of groceries, we would really appreciate the help. Please do not feel obligated!
Also, if you know of anyone in the area who needs a Christmas dinner, or would be alone on Christmas Day, make sure you pass the information on!" - Doreen Coenen

Giving Back Day #7: Legacy
Our story starts in 1929ā¦
Twenty five year old Pius Wilhauk was running through the night with his young wife, Katharina, and their one year old baby girl, Elizabeth.
Escaping Russia on a train that was chugging along slowly through Moscow, and towards a ship that would take them to safety in Canada.
Treason charges, a close call capture, two quarantines, and six months laterā¦they made it.
They eventually settled in Alberta and had six boys and three more girls.
Between fist fights and front yard brawls, the young boys grew and became more independent.
Pius opened up a slaughterhouse with his sons in Leduc, Alberta in 1965.
They purchased land on the edge of town for $1,000 and together they built the buildingā¦cinder block, by cinder block.
Nail by nail.
Slowly, their high quality meat production and no bu****it reputation was built over the years.
Two of Piusā sons, Norm and Alex, remained at the shop for their entire careers.
Grueling work. Insane hours.
Hands that still ache to this day.
They brought their own sons to work in the shop and to learn the trade.
Taught them all they knew.
That is how these men led the way for the family business that we are operating now.
Dreams build on pipes, cinder blocks, family commitment, and a lot of damn hard work.
Today, we want to recognize Norm and the legacy that he has built.
Standing beside him is my Dad, Victor Moroz.
He went to kindergarten not knowing a lot of English. He is the second youngest of seven siblings in his Ukrainian family, born in Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan.
Like most second generation immigrants, they had to work so incredibly hard to make it.
For a while, their family had no running water, no indoor plumbing, and definitely no electricity as they lived in a log cabin while they built up their homestead.
Years of farming put food on the table.
They lived a life of hard workā¦their sons in the fields and their girls in the kitchen.
Family was everything.
The strongest of traditions were built here, and they are still felt three generations later.
Victor was 18 years old when he moved to Alberta, and he and his young wife Lynn, settled in Parkland County to raise their own three children.
Full of ideas, and dreamsā¦he somehow got our family through the years with very little money, like everyone in the early 1980ās.
He built up his family name through hard work and pure determination.
I get my entrepreneurship dreams from my Dad.
Over the last 20 years, Victor has been very involved in the community. For years he volunteered as a Rotarian, he has volunteered on numerous different boards, and has been an important part of our cityās forward movement.
He is an amazing business man.
He was the one that gave us the idea of opening up a Wilhauk Beef Jerky Ltd. store in Spruce Grove.
He is our landlord. And, I pay the highest rent in the whole city!
Legacy is not what weāve done for ourselves, it what we are doing for the next generation.
Trevor, Grayson, and Hazen.
You not only carry the name these men gave you, you carry their legacy on your own shoulders.
Today, we all watch you here in the shop.
Grayson, you have made us so incredibly proud. Every day we see you. Quietly standing at your machines, making every piece of pepperoni, every sausage, every wild game order, mixing spices, cleaning the machines, and tallying up the numbers. I love that you are starting to come in to my office now and ask questions about the paperwork on my desk and what everything is costing and reasons behind it all.
Hazen, at fourteen years oldā¦youāve got to be one of the youngest sausage makers in the world! We love how you want to learn this trade that has been passed down to you from your brother, and your Dad. You already know so much, itās like itās always been a part of you and you are just figuring it out.
Trevor, none of us, most especially myself, would be here doing all of thisā¦without you.
You are everything.
Thank you for helping me carry the weight of our 12 Days of Giving. Itās a lot, and I absolutely couldnāt pull it off without you to center me at the end of the night. And in the mornings. And in the middle of the shop floor when I burst into tears.
You are a man, with the strongest of shoulders.
Every day you show up, you never question my crazy ideas, you are my calm and you are simply the greatest example I could ever ask for, for our children.
Thank you for helping me teach our boys (and girls) about their grandfatherās, and great grandfathersā legacy.
Today, we surprised them with a fishing trip to Montana, USA. They will head out in the spring time to figure out how to fly fish, drink some beer, and sit around a few campfires.
Together.
They have spent their whole lives working to make a better life for us.
Itās time we treat themā¦with time ā„ļø
We thank you, we love you ā„ļø
Merry Christmas!
~ Amanda Wilhauk
