So the city approved a SPA USE for 125 George's Pond road today!!!!! What does that mean?? not much ... one tiny step forward.. but it's forward!!! with many, many hoops to go through...

Our new proposed location has over 9 acres of forest as well as a stream, which makes for an incredibly relaxing atmosphere! 125 George's Pond Road is located in the center of the city, convenient for both residents and tourists, yet also still very rural for relaxing!

We are very excited about this location and hope you are too!!! Subject to City of St. John's approval.

Well I am just writing to let you know we don't have anything new as of yet but we should be SOON! We have our application into the city and they are working on it! I want to begin by saying THANK YOU!!! We aren't even open and all of our future guests have been so positive and supportive! We have found a NEW LOCATION!!! Details will follow in the future but it is within the City of St. John's once again! Thank you all for all your comments and messages to us! We appreciate your enthusiasm and support!

The City of St. John’s counsellors voted today against the approval for the Spa location at 1274 Blackhead road due to the lack of local resident’s support.

We are actively proceeding with other location options and will update you in the future. We appreciate your continued support!

What’s the big deal about Saunas??

If you take the time to dig into the science around saunas, the benefits are so compelling that you will be seeking out a place to sweat it out as soon as you can.
The benefits of this ancient practice can be found in chapter 2 of Tim Ferris’ book - Tools of Titans where he interviewed Dr. Rhonda Patrick, a cell biologist who has a superb podcast and newsletter called Found My Fitness. She has dedicated her life to the pursuit of longevity and optimal health.
She has complied the most complete scientific data on the incredible benefits of heat shock proteins produce by saunas. You can see it on her website here:

Some of the proven benefits from a variety of studies include:
1. Cardiovascular Health: large studies conducted in eastern Finland have shown that frequent sauna users (4-7 times per week) were found to be 63% less likely to experience sudden cardiac death and 37% percent less likely to die from all causes of premature death, regardless of age, activity levels, and lifestyle factors.”
2. Cognitive Decline: Findings from a large observational study of middle-aged men living in Finland demonstrated that men who used the sauna four to seven times per week had a 65 percent reduced risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, compared to men who used the sauna only one time per week
3. Depression: In a randomized, double-blind study of 30 healthy adults diagnosed with depression, participants who were exposed to a single session of whole-body hyperthermia in which core body temperature was elevated to 38.5°C (101.3°F) experienced an acute antidepressant effect that was apparent within a week of treatment and persisted for six weeks after treatment.
4. Growth Hormone: two 20-minute sauna sessions at 80°C (176°F) separated by a 30-minute cooling period elevated growth hormone levels two-fold over baseline, but two 15-minute sauna sessions at 100°C (212°F) dry heat separated by a 30-minute cooling period resulted in a five-fold increase in growth hormone
5. Increased endurance: Findings showed that one 30-minute sauna session twice a week for three weeks post-workout increased the time that it took for the study participants to run until exhaustion by 32 percent compared to their baseline
6. Detoxification: Sweating facilitates the excretion of certain toxicants that bioaccumulate in the muscle, adipose tissues, and organs of humans such as heavy metals, PCB’s and Phthalate compounds.

Hot baths have been shown to offer many of the same benefits and are excellent before bed as the body will then cool down the core which will get you ready for restful sleep.
