We cherish working with clients who bring deep personal meaning to their projects. ’ TYP-01 commission is a great example. His Porsche 911 GT3 with Touring Package (Typ 992), finished in his favorite Oak Green Metallic—a color also beloved by the Porsche family—features his father’s birth year, 1957, on the door sill, making it both a family treasure and a touching tribute to his dad.

We aimed to faithfully capture all these special details in the TYP-01 watch stand, starting with matching the exact Oak Green Metallic of his car. This was a tough task on such a small but intricate surface, so we turned to Noah and Elodie from , experts in painting the complicated surfaces of competition bike frames. To achieve an identical color to his car, uses the exact same paint supplier with the exact same color mix as Porsche. To take the finish to the next level, we brought in a professional detailer, , for additional paint surface refinement, clear coat polishing, and layers of ceramic coating for extra shine and protection for the intricate TYP-01 chassis.

But we didn’t stop at the paint. The watch rest features the same Cohiba leather and espresso stitching as ’ car interior. Partnering with , we sourced OEM leather and threads from Porsche suppliers. then worked his magic on the upholstery, ensuring every detail was perfect.

When we saw the final product in the sunlight, we knew it was something special. The Oak Green Metallic paint, infused with metal flakes, sparkled brilliantly. It immediately became one of our favorite TYP-01s. Thanks to for trusting us with this meaningful project. Here’s to trying new things and never resting on your laurels.

Collaborating with enthusiasts is something special. The passion, attention to detail, and love for the craft are on a whole different level. That’s exactly how it felt partnering up with this Hong Kong-based customer on his TYP-01 with tailor-made watrest. Learning about what passion means to fellow enthusiasts is always invigorating and motivating, and it allows us to broaden our understanding of what we do.

As the editorial director of a well-known watch publication, he is a well-respected watch scholar with a deep fascination for stories. The cars and watches he connects with are those that resonate with him on a personal and narrative level. With a strong Ferrari influence during his formative years, having the car in the garage and the Scuderia on the TV screen every other weekend, he became a car lover himself and is well-versed in the lore of the marques.

He was incredibly encouraging for us to be experimental with our ideas and techniques. We dove headfirst into the project, playing around with red, black, and green—his family’s horse racing colors. Each version was something of an experiment, sparking new ideas and pushing us to refine our approach.

While the final result appears effortlessly refined, it’s actually the result of many cycles of proposals, prototypes, and rejections: a striking red with a black end cap, both in Alcantara and stitched with green thread—simple yet beautiful.

From the start, there’s been this one image that’s guided us—Françoise Hardy sitting cool and collected in a 1966 Ferrari 312 F1 race car. We’ve always been inspired by her music and style, but this image in particular has been on our mood board since day one of designing the TYP-01 watch stand.

Why this picture? Because it’s got that perfect blend of elegance and raw power. Françoise sitting there, looking effortlessly chic and totally in control, captured everything we wanted in the TYP-01. Masculine meets feminine, organic beauty meets technical complexity—charm with just the right amount of edge. Simply put: it’s cool as hell.

We’ve long been inspired by Françoise, not just for her music but for moments like this. Her style, her spirit—it all speaks to our design philosophy. Her recent passing hit hard, but her legacy keeps inspiring us, echoing in every TYP-01 we build.

Thanks, Françoise, for being our muse.

Every TYP-01 tells a story, but this tailor-made model dressed in our RUF Bergmeister Pepita is particularly close to our hearts. It perfectly complements this special Carrera Chronograph—a watch that epitomizes the vibrant community of car enthusiasts globally.

The journey behind these photos begins with Jason (), a friend and car enthusiast whose love for RUF () cars was kindled in ‘90s video games like Gran Turismo. Even in those early days of video games, RUF believed in their potential to shape culture, and partnered with game developers, which led to their thrilling performance vehicles being featured in many games, such as those that Jason played. Today, Jason’s passion isn’t just preserved in the tasteful collection of cars he curates but in this exciting RUF-inspired watch prepared by Bamford ().

The watch itself is a collaboration between Bamford, Aloisa Ruf (), and Jonathan Schley () from Highsnobiety (). Each detail bears their legacy of bespoke modding and street-smart design. Ruf brings their love and passion for highly-calibrated sports cars; Bamford brings a unique eye for custom artistry; and Schley weaves in his luxury streetwear sensibility. Together they deliver a piece that’s a statement of contemporary watch and car culture.

Adding our custom stand to the mix brought us into a conversation with some of today’s most innovative trendsetters and designers—a dialogue between form, function, and heritage. This tailor-made TYP-01 not only supports the watch but stylistically interacts with it, inspired by and echoing its design philosophy, and ultimately enriching both pieces.

Cheers to the power of collaboration and the incredible moments that emerge when passionate makers cross paths. Swipe to take a closer look at this collaboration.

Throwback to when the TYP-01 was still a vision in progress, sketched out by and coming into its own.

We were trying to craft so much more than a watchstand. We wanted a sculpture, a canvas for stories, a celebration of the timeless design of the 911 that would stop Porsche aficionados in their tracks.

We had a feeling we were onto something good, but we never quite anticipated the journey these early designs would take us on.

Since those days, we’ve seen the TYP-01 land in the hands of seasoned drivers, visionary designers, and Porsche enthusiasts of all ages. It’s humbling and downright awesome to know that our creation is being enjoyed by such a diverse and passionate community.
Here’s to the design that started it all and to every person who’s welcomed the TYP-01 into their life.

This commission gave us the rare opportunity to work with classic colors from Porsche’s design history. , who was the first journalist to review a future-classic 911 S/T with the Porsche Heritage Design Interior Package, came to us with a unique request. He loved the classic cognac leather in the car so much that he wanted to experience the TYP-01 in matching upholstery.

I’ve been reading Basem’s writing in publications like the Motor Trend, Panorama, and the Robb Report for years. Having observed his vast experience with cars through his articles, I knew that crafting something to his standards would be a fantastic challenge. Not only did this project let us dive into the rich heritage of Porsche’s design elements but also gave us the chance to flex our craftsmanship for someone with an extraordinary wealth of knowledge and experience with 911s.

We’re so grateful for the opportunity to work with Basem on this commission—we’re immensely proud of how elegant the TYP-01 looks in this cognac leather.

We’re thrilled to announce that we now offer custom painting for the TYP-01 watch stand. Our inaugural piece is a celebration of Tetsu Ikuzawa’s Porsche 910, raced in the Japan Grand Prix at Fuji in 1968.

The legacy of is of personal significance to us at .design. The Porsche 910 he piloted in the Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji Speedway in 1968 is an icon in itself, representing a period when racing technology allowed for a purity of design that was more organic than technical. For us, Ikuzawa is an inspiration whose story compels us to pursue excellence in our craft with the same passion he brought to the tracks. The TYP-01 Tribute to Ikuzawa is our celebration of a consummate racing professional, embodying the beauty and spirit of the era he so brilliantly defined.

Our collaboration with , a bespoke painting shop, allows us to bring a mind-blowing level of artistry to the TYP-01 chassis. Noah Rosen, VéloColour’s lead painter known for his work on vintage bicycles and even projects for Pope Francis, brings an unparalleled technical exactitude to the TYP-01. The details on the chassis that at first glance may appear to be high-quality decals are, in fact, hand-painted with meticulous care. This laborious process involves intricate masking, detailed layering, and a final clear-coating that not only protects but also accentuates the texture, allowing you to feel the artistry under your fingertips.

The TYP-01 Tribute to Ikuzawa watch stand is just the starting line for R Werk’s journey into custom painting. Our partnership with VéloColour allows us to offer watch enthusiasts the opportunity to immortalize their own stories onto the canvas of their TYP-01 chassis. We’re ready to meld our technical prowess with your vision and create a unique piece that pays tribute to any narrative you want to capture. Whether you’re drawn to our limited Tribute editions or you’re envisioning a custom piece, reach out to Nelson at R Werk. Let’s make your vision a reality.

It all started with a phone call. We were brainstorming ideas for our TYP-01 watchstand ad in , looking for that spark of inspiration. And then, like a plot from a movie, it unfolded: one call led to another, and pretty soon we were shooting our watchstand against a Carrera GT in a Porsche dealership in the middle of a freezing rain.

It happened like this. Our friend .guo offered his Porsche Carrera GT as a prop—undoubtedly the most extravagant prop ever. And he didn’t stop there. He took the reins and coordinated with the incredible team at . Ken and of Porsche Centre Markham not only opened their doors to us, but reached out to to get a 911 GT3 RS Chronograph, and closed down a section of their dealership to bring our photoshoot to life.

The freezing rain swept in, as if on cue. But the cold couldn’t dampen our spirits. Guo, ever the hero, trucked his CGT through the inclement weather, giving us a stunning backdrop for our TYP-01.

, our creative allies from the start, steered the artistic direction, their lens juxtaposing the power of the Carrera GT with the elegance of the Chronograph draped across our watchrest, its titanium bezel awash with light.

As I stood there, amidst the flurry of activity, I realized that what I was witnessing wasn’t just a photoshoot but the outcome of friendship, creative partnerships, and a whole lot of trust. All I can hope is that the final ad in 000 makes everyone involved proud.

Find the final shot we chose in a future issue of 000 Magazine. Until then, these behind-the-scenes moments are just a glimpse into that incredible day.

Presented here is a TYP-01 watch stand upholstered in an extraordinarily rare tartan fabric. From beginning to end, this project reflects the lengths we go to for every commission.

When our client asked for a very specific fabric from Porsche Sonderwunsch, we knew we had our work cut out for us. This fabric, woven exclusively by a single Scottish family business that’s been operated through multiple generations, is steeped in heritage and rarity. It was essential for us to secure it, especially since it’s the same fabric used in the recipient’s 911 Speedster (Typ 991), which was highly personalized by Porsche Sonderwunsch. The effort to acquire this fabric was intense. Porsche is renowned for their exclusivity with materials, so it took unwavering dedication and several months of hard work. But with the help of the right people–who we’re incredibly grateful for–we made it happen, and we’re so glad we did: the results speak for themselves.

Then came the request for a heartfelt engraving on the mirrored chassis. We immediately turned to Peter Cook of London Ontario, a master engraver with over 50 years of experience. His exceptional craftsmanship added a deeply personal element, transforming this TYP-01 into a token of friendship between our client and his friend, the recipient.

This project has been a remarkable and challenging journey, and seeing the joy it brings to our client and his friend makes every effort worthwhile. We’re proud to have been part of creating something so unique and meaningful, and we look forward to bringing more of such visions to life in the future.

A year ago, a journey began with one of our first customers, who saw in the TYP-01 not just a watchrest, but a component of his daily ritual. In a more recent conversation with him, we discovered a passion that runs even deeper than cars and watches: an unwavering love for . This revelation sparked an exciting idea: to create a unique TYP-01 inspired by Christian Louboutin.

Diving deep into the world of Christian Louboutin with direct guidance from the brand, we crafted the 'TYP-01 Tribute to Christian Louboutin'. Our collaboration with the brand was pivotal, particularly in gaining access to the exclusive typeface used on our customer's diamond-embellished Louboutin shoes that spell out '92' (his birthday), which we embossed on the watchrest. Moreover, we matched the iconic lipstick red color, a signature of Louboutin's style. This evocative hue was used to wrap the baseplate and for the intricate stitching on the black Alcantara watchrest, ensuring every aspect of the piece reflected the sophisticated and sexy spirit of Christian Louboutin’s work, while also embodying the personal style and story of its owner.

Drawing inspiration from our customer's extensive collection of Christian Louboutin shoes, this tribute not only reflects the distinctive style of these iconic pieces but also mirrors the personality of the owner himself. It’s quietly confident at the outset, with a touch of flamboyance right below the surface. Its baseplate, a burst of passionate red, is only revealed upon lifting the watch stand. Similarly, the lipstick-red stitching of the watchrest is visible solely in its reflection against the mirrored chassis. Thus it’s a perfect homage to the obvious elegance and unassuming charm that defines both its owner and his commendable collection.

At R Werk, we cherish the opportunity to reflect the unique tastes and passions of our customers in our work. We're honored to craft pieces that go beyond being mere products—they're reflections of individual passions. Every commission tells a story, and we strive to make each one as distinctive and meaningful as our customers themselves.

I remember the first time I saw a Mercedes-Benz gliding through the streets, its sophisticated profile and cabernet red color capturing my childhood imagination. My fascination turned into a lifelong passion the day I stumbled upon an R129 in a magazine. Learning about Bruno Sacco, the mastermind behind its design, opened Pandora's box for my love of Mercedes. Inspired by Sacco's genius, I was determined to pursue a career in automotive design and follow in his footsteps. This ambition led me to a career-defining role in Sindelfingen under the same roof where Sacco once worked.

During my time at Smart, working under the guidance of , I learned innumerable invaluable lessons. not only enriched my design philosophy but inspired me to make design decisions that were integrated into the production cars. Seeing these concepts transition from sketches to features on the road was a remarkable milestone in my career as an automotive designer.

Then R Werk came calling. handed me an incredible opportunity to merge my passions for cars and watches without the usual restrictions. Designing the TYP-01 was a dream project: I was given free rein, with no concerns about manufacturing constraints or budget. It was a unique chance to fully explore my creativity and pursue a design objective without limitations. The outcome of this project fills me with immense pride, and I am genuinely in love with the results.

I want to thank and the team at Smart for choosing a TYP-01 as a gift to .gebhardt as a commemoration of his new position as VP of Advanced Design at Mercedes-Benz.
gebhardt, it’s a surreal, full-circle moment to see a creation of mine prominently displayed in your office at the Mercedes design studio. Your office is the heart of creativity, where key partnerships are formed, critical decisions are made, and new visions are brought to life. To have a piece I designed among such company is an honor.

As you begin this exciting new role, I want you to know how grateful I am for the opportunities you’ve given me. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. ❤️

Presented here is a tailor-made watchrest gifted to our friend .life. Upholstered in the Tartan fabric sourced directly from Mercedes-Benz Classic, it’s the same fabric used in the 300SL “Gullwing”, a car that revolutionized automotive history.

We’re thrilled to present this tailor-made watchrest to Hamid as a token of our appreciation for his friendship, inspiration, and unwavering support. It's the early believers who leave a lasting impact, and Hamid has been a pillar of support right from the inception of the TYP-01. Not only has he championed our vision since we showed him the very first sketches, he purchased a pair of TYP-01s for himself the moment the TYP-01 became available several months later.

We chose this fabric because of Hamid’s love affair with his Mercedes-Benz SL500 (R230), a car that has accompanied him through one of the most transformative times of his life.

After an unfortunate event that occurred with his SL, he had the opportunity to have it lovingly restored with the help of from .auto.collision and (who upholsters all of our watchrests). This restoration, featuring the distinctive 300SL green plaid, is mirrored in our gift, symbolizing the deep connection between Hamid, his car, and our journey with him.

Hamid, thank you for being a tremendous friend. This piece is a small token of our immense gratitude and respect for you. May it always remind you of fond memories and the exciting road that lies ahead for you and your SL.

Presented here is a TYP-01 with tailor-made watchrest commissioned by a discerning collector in Dubai. It looks absolutely stunning.

The tailor-made watchrest features the extremely sought-after pepita houndstooth fabric, which was first seen on the Porsche 911 50th Anniversary Edition (Type 991) designed by the team led by Tony Hatter. It is also the fabric very prominently featured in the Porsche 911R (Type 991).

This pepita houndstooth fabric was specially requested by the customer to match the interior of his upcoming Singer reimagined Porsche 911 commission.

This fabric has always been extremely difficult to source. In fact, it has become essentially unobtainable in the last twelve months. Special thanks to for helping with the sourcing of this fabric. is a wizard 🧙‍♂️

Presented here are ’ TYP-01s with tailor-made watchrests: one featuring Ferrari's Traditional Beige Nappa leather and the iconic prancing horse embossed with precision. The other sporting the yellow plaid of the Volkswagen Golf.

The Ferrari and VW Golf are seemingly on opposing ends of the spectrum—one, the pinnacle of performance and evocative Italian design; the other, the epitome of German engineering and everyday practicality. Yet these polar opposites perfectly encapsulate multifaceted passion. For him, it’s not just about the panache of a brand name; it's about an intrinsic curiosity that fuels his ever-diverse interests, and the stories these objects tell that capture the imagination in different but equally valid ways.

At the heart of love for cars is his enduring relationship with his father. This father-son bond adds another dimension to their collection, transforming it into a tapestry of memories and shared experiences. As the father of a toddler, this is the sort of relationship I hope to foster with my son.

, thank you for reminding us of the virtues of remaining curious. Your collection is a tribute to the fun of collectorship, and we're honored to craft pieces that reflect that.

In the world of car and watch aficionados, the details are everything. That's why we're so proud to unveil this remarkable commission that hits the mark on all levels.

Feast your eyes on this set of tailor-made TYP-01 watchrests, one adorned in the iconic Porsche pepita fabric in red and the other in blue.

The proud owner of a Carrera GT didn't stop at commissioning master upholsterer to revamp his carbon bucket racing seats in classic Porsche pepita fabric. He took it a step further by choosing to upholster the driver side in red pepita and the passenger side in blue, mirroring the color-coded wheel nuts of his prized Carrera GT.

We had the privilege to collaborate with Justin, who sourced the matching fabric, to bring this vision to life. The result is a harmonious pair of TYP-01 watch stands that are as eye-catching as they are meaningful.

Hands down, this is one of our favorite projects to date. The passion for craft and attention to detail in this commission remind us of why we love what we do.

graciously opened their space at Rennsport Reunion 7 to showcase our TYP-01 watch stand, and for that we’re immensely grateful.

I was first introduced to Sascha of RENNWERKSTATT by Will () because I was in search of an exceptionally rare fabric in order to complete a TYP-01 commission for a discerning client.

Sascha, the original architect of Porsche Exclusive Personal Design Program for PCNA (Porsche Cars North America), has seamlessly extended his pioneering customization work into his role at RENNWERKSTATT, where he has elevated the art of personalization to levels even beyond what's possible at Porsche Exclusive.

It came as no surprise that Sascha’s booth was inundated with curious attendees the entire weekend. Yet what strikes me the most about him isn't his unparalleled expertise but his sheer humility, gentle nature, and the generosity with which he offers his time, help, and resources. He’s a true gentleman.

To have the TYP-01 featured alongside RENNWERKSTATT's own pieces—each impeccably crafted in those iconic and historic Porsche fabrics—feels like an accolade in and of itself.

Cheers to Sascha, RENNWERKSTATT, and all the kindred spirits out there pushing the envelope.

What an honor it was to share the show stand at Rennsport Reunion 7 alongside some truly innovative entrepreneurs, designers, and engineers. From meticulously machined keys to the electrifying 935 Moby X by , it was thrilling to be in such distinguished company.

We've long admired and the Formawerx team. Witnessing their growth has been nothing short of inspiring, and Daniel's invaluable support and feedback on the TYP-01 have been instrumental to our journey at R Werk.

We were blown away by the other brilliant projects we shared the Team Toyo show stand with. From commitment to self-expression to Bismoto’s boundary-pushing reinvention of the Porsche 935, and RWB’s striking 997 spearheaded by Akira Nakai ().

Despite the naysayers they surely have faced along their journeys, each creator remained unwaveringly dedicated to their unique visions. The results of their efforts not only defy expectations but also deeply personalize what the Porsche brand means to them. Whether met with controversy or acclaim, the passion behind these projects is palpable, making them nothing short of admirable accomplishments.

Our tremendous gratitude to Team Toyo for recognizing what our fellow presenters are accomplishing within the community. We’re incredibly proud to be included among this group of visionaries and artists.

We’re deeply honored to have the TYP-01 featured in ’s solo exhibition at the in NYC. To say it's surreal is an understatement—Daniel's transformative approach to art has been a cornerstone in shaping our own creative ethos.

Witnessing the reactions from attendees to the TYP-01 has been beyond gratifying. To see admirers of Daniel Arsham's work pause and engage with our watchstand is an emotional high point for us. It's a unique form of joy to realize that people who are drawn to his creativity also find something special in ours.

A big thanks also to . His unwavering support and generosity—right down to hand-carrying the TYP-01 from Germany to New York—are invaluable. Justin, your trust and encouragement have made all the difference. You’re the best partner anyone could hope for.

Visit the Perrotin Gallery from now until October 14th to see this exhibit, which showcases Arsham’s artistic evolution over two groundbreaking decades. You don’t want to miss it.

We're captivated by 'Artifacts,' a new art book that dives deep into the Porsche Historic Archive.

This book celebrates the intricate engineering and heritage that define Porsche’s legacy.

It's a love letter to the fine details—the bolts, the sketches, the designs—that are usually overshadowed by the end product.

This focus on the granular and the elemental resonates deeply with our mission at R Werk.

In a similar vein, our TYP-01 celebrates these underappreciated facets, the hidden parts that comprise the whole.

A huge thanks to ERG Media (.media), Ted Gushue (), and the team for bringing such a thoughtful project to life.

Photos from R Werk's post 09/06/2023

It's deeply affirming to be part of Daniel Arsham () 20 Years solo show at Perrotin (). Arsham's art has always been special to us, serving as a beacon of inspiration and creativity. His unique artistic voice, unbounded originality, and intuitive understanding of pop culture have shaped our understanding that anything that creates an emotional response in the viewer is art. Guided by the lessons from his work, we’ve crafted this piece as an homage to his profound influence on us that began in the earliest days of R Werk.

The journey to this TYP-01 was one filled with trials, tribulations, and lessons. Behind this object lie unseen stories of failed attempts and undeterred dedication. Whether it's the 50% of the machined chassis that are rejected for failing our exacting craftsmanship criteria or the 70% of 3D printed aluminum supporting structures that are discarded as subpar—every single element demanded our utmost attention, care, and precision.

The watchrest alone consumed more than 20 painstaking hours for Devin () to perfect—and eight attempts were rejected before arriving at the final version. Eight failures, eight stories of self-doubt, persistence, and triumph. What if we couldn't accomplish it? What if we never got it right? These questions lingered, but they never overpowered the drive to meet our goals, to keep going, to keep pushing.

The TYP-01 we made for Daniel, based on the interiors of his Porsche 911 upholstered by the brilliant Justin Placek (), and mirroring the interior of the Porsche 959 designed by Freeman Thomas, is a symbol of collaboration, innovation, and artistry.

We thank Daniel and Justin for this opportunity. It was a joy to create this TYP-01. Without them, R Werk wouldn’t exist. This project meant many different things to us, but above all, it's a beautiful reminder to be open-minded with creative work; there is much effort that isn't seen on the surface. If you’re in New York, please drop by Perrotin Gallery to see multiple series of Arsham’s work reflecting the evolution of his practice over the past two decades.

Four years ago, I stumbled upon Autostrada Magazine () at a Barnes and Noble at The Grove in Los Angeles. The quality immediately struck me—the compelling articles, vibrant photography, and high-end paper were a class apart. What made it even more special was learning it was based in Toronto, my hometown, and co-published by Lucas (), a friend and fellow car enthusiast I've known for nearly two decades.

Fast-forward to today, and I'm beyond thankful to Sean () and Lucas for inviting us to introduce the R Werk TYP-01 to Autostrada's discerning readership. At its core, the TYP-01 is our tribute to the intertwined world of cars and watches, a momentary pit stop where you can pause, admire, and appreciate the craftsmanship of your timepiece before heading out on another adventure together. In our opinion, Autostrada is the perfect venue to share how the TYP-01 embodies this fusion of automotive and horological passion.

A special shoutout to Elle (), the writer of this feature. Elle is a dear friend, and I’ve always admired him for his fearlessness and original thoughts. I was thrilled when he took an immediate interest in an early TYP-01 and decided to write this heartfelt feature on it.

On behalf of the entire R Werk team, we're humbled by this opportunity. The story is elegantly written by Elle, complemented by stunning imagery captured by Louis () and the Project1 () team.

Taking close to two years to design and develop, the TYP-01 is more than just a watch stand; it’s a beautifully-crafted sculpture inspired by iconic elements of the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7. To learn more, grab the Sept 2023 issue of Autostrada, available at bookstores across North America and Hudson News Airport locations internationally.
