What do you think about gold fixtures in the kitchen? Gold anywhere in the house for that matter.
Over the years I have witnessed numerous homeowners express their concerns about gold not lasting the test of time, afraid of it being a fad.
If I'm not mistaken, the first kitchen I designed with a gold faucet was 10 years ago and I think we can all agree gold fixtures (faucets, hardware, lighting) still has a strong presence.
Why are people still so aprehensive about a gold finish? Maybe it's because at one point we all associate that yellow gold to builder grade material that everyone was so eager to get rid of and they don't wantnto make the same mistake again. It seams people want to be more mindful that the new selections last the test of time.
Do you know what lasts the test of time? Choosing something that you love. Something that speaks to your heart. Yes, I'm still talking about fixtures! But the point I'm trying to make is that if you love it, you don't have to concern yourself with what's in style because to you it will always be YOUR style. What is more personal than having your own style?
In short, get the gold.
I've seen brass inlays in tile, but now it's showing up in hardwood floors.
I think trends come and go, but this adds small sporadic sparks of interest. I love it.
What do you think?

The surge in popularity of drinking faucets has prompted leading brands like to introduce coordinated designs that seamlessly match their primary faucets.
Gone are the days when drinking faucets were limited in styles, often confined to chrome or brushed nickel finishes. The current market offers a diverse array of mini faucets mirroring the aesthetic of their larger counterparts.

If you like it then you better put a...grate in it.
I'm so sorry, no one was around to stop me from making that bad joke.
Using a sink grate can be crucial for maintaining your sink and here is why:
Protects Sink Surface: They safeguard the sink surface from scratches and damage caused by utensils or pots.
Enhances Drainage: Sink grates improve drainage by allowing water to flow freely, reducing standing water and bacterial buildup.

Let's debunk the myth together! Some say it's a passing trend, but trust me, painting your island in an accent hue is here to stay!
My advice? Pick a color that speaks to your soul because when you love it, it's timeless! Your island, your style, your vibe!

After careful consideration, I'm thrilled with how Statuario Maximus by looks in the kitchen at .
Its natural-looking veins strike the perfect balance, effortlessly tying together the bright white cabinets with the dark stain for a harmonious and elegant look. 🤍🖤 The pronounced yet not overpowering veins add character without overwhelming the space.
Loving how it all came together! 😍
Pro tip: when pairing whites together, compare their individual undertones to ensure they will work together!
This weekend my family and I went to the Royal Ontario Museum. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit this was my first time there!
The is more than a museum, it's a portal to the past and a glimpse into the future and a real source of inspiration!
If you have been to the ROM, what is your favourit exhibit?

Reflecting on the past this ! This laundry & mudroom was completed in 2019 and proved to be a game-changer for our client's growing family. Now that school's in session, it's the ultimate spot for kids to prep and stay organized. Plus, with an attached garage, it's perfect for unloading the car, kicking off those muddy shoes, and keeping the mess at bay before it enters your home!

Despite the challenging circumstances of the past couple years due to the ugly C word (COVID), I've been eagerly anticipating the chance to capture this project, which I am beyond proud to show off.
Pictured is the console table, located in the foyer. Before the reno, walls, both full and half height, obstructed the sight lines throughout this spacious home. If we kept the original layout, the foyer would have remained hidden.

Let's talk about processes.
As part of our processes here at PSID, we get to know our client's preferred design aesthetic by reviewing their inspiration pictures, as well by asking them a series of questions about their likes and dislikes.
Oftentimes a design is based off elements from inspiration pictures and it's our job, as the designer, to take these key features and find a way to make them work together in our client's unique space. You could compare this to a recipe. You take a bit of this, a pinch of that and add a secret ingredient - et voila!
The 2nd image was our client's inspiration picture. They found the black door frames to be too bold, so we made the insides of the cabinets black instead.

Let's talk pocket doors and why they're great.
1. Space-saving: They maximize the available space in small rooms.
2. Accessibility: They provide easy access for people with mobility issues or those using a wheelchair because there isn't a door to maneuver around.
3. Improved flow: When opened, pocket doors don't obstruct traffic flow, making it more convenient for users and reducing any potential congestion in the bathroom area.
If you're considering installing a pocket door, It's important to plan ahead.
1. Structural Integrity: Verify that the wall where the pocket door will be installed is structurally sound.
2. Wall Space: Ensure that there is enough wall space on either side of the doorway to accommodate the pocket door when it's fully retracted.
3. Wiring and Plumbing: Check for electrical wiring, plumbing pipes, or any other obstructions in the wall before installation.
Let me know in the comments if you have any questions about pocket doors!
Nature, the ultimate soul-soother and mind-opener! There's something enchanting about stepping into the great outdoors that makes me feel like I'm hitting the "reset" button on my inner self.
Help us choose a replacement tile!
The first image is of the original tile which was intended for the powder room. It was going to be used as an accent, installed half way up the wall that the vanity and toilet are on. Unfortunately the tile has been discontinued and the stock count was off, so that means we're out of luck and need to choose a new tile.
Let us know in the comments if you would choose option 1, 2, 3 or 4.
I get to know my clients very well...down to their favourite place to shop. The inspiration for this design is . Do you see it?
Que the Spice Girls song "2 become 1" because that's what happened with this primary ensuite.
That's right, there used to be two full bathrooms, but my clients who had just purchased this home wanted one large space instead. It couldn't have turned out more beautiful! And talk about timeless design - this was done back in 2015!
Pro tip: The before photo was taken from the door, meaning the toilet is the first thing you see when you walk in. Avoid this at all costs.
Yesterday I took my kids out to while my husband rested his eye (torn retina 😲). We visited the and really enjoyed the architecture of the building, artifacts and art. The kids were surprisingly really into the whole experience. There was a Rumi exhibit that I especially liked. (picture coming)
After that we made our way to the and the kids were really drawn to the water features. Fun fact: the central feature of the park was designed by a Lebanon based architect! My mom is Lebanese so I thought that was cool.
It was getting hot, late and the kids needed food (deathwish for parents) BUT with the stunning Ismaili Center too close to miss, I put one kid on my hip, held the other's hand and marched on to see what was inside. Well sota. The only way to see the building was by guided tour, which there was understandably a very long line for. The only thing we could see was the Living Sea exhibit, which is where I captured this shot, with 3% battery.
I highly recommend visiting these 2 masterpieces. My kids realllly wanted to have a picnic there, so there's that too.
