At our annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, our guests were surprised with a special performance by @mattdusk! Fairmont Royal York was filled with holiday magic by the festive crooner as the tree in the grand hotel was lit with such holiday delight! Next, a private performance was held for our clients, and Matt Dusk hosted a one-night-only revival of the glory days of the storied Imperial Room, which hosted legends Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Tina Turner, Tony Bennet, and many more! 📸 @ward1studios

Believe in the Power of a Wish! Fairmont Royal York is proud to be a global partner with @makeawish_canada making wishes come true for wish families all across our country. To start our holiday season, we invited six wish children to be featured on our Front Street windows. They revealed their special windows at our annual Tree Lighting ceremony and participated in the time-honoured tradition of lighting the tree in the grand hotel. Trees of Joy by Make-A-Wish also returned this year, with 80 trees donated by the generous support from sponsors! On November 15, Fairmont Royal York announced our achievement of a Zero Carbon Building – Performance Standard certification by the Canada Green Building Council. This certification makes Fairmont Royal York the largest heritage hotel in Canada and North America to operate as a Zero Carbon Building. The transformation will remove 7,000 tonnes of carbon annually – the equivalent of removing 1,558 cars from the road. This will equate to removing 165,000 tonnes of carbon through to 2050. Fairmont Royal York achieved this accolade in partnership with KingSett Capital, and through support from the Canada Infrastructure Bank, EnWave and PCL Construction.

Happy World Honey Bee Day! Home to half a million bees, our rooftop apiary has seven hives and seven queens cared for by Executive Hotel Sous Chef Andrew Wilson alongside @beegrrlto and @torontobeekeeperscollective . Our annual honey harvest takes place in September, and each year the bees produce an average of 400 lbs of honey that our culinary team uses throughout the dining venues. #Bees #Pollinators

To celebrate International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, this week we welcomed Anishinaabe Artist, Cody James Houle, to create a custom painting. Cody is a self-taught Anishinaabe independent artist who works with one of our suppliers, Oscardo, focusing on producing Indigenous and Canadian art. "Creating for me is an opportunity to use my voice, to inspire and show indigenous youth and indigenous people across turtle island. That our stories and voice are important.”, says Cody.
