🚫 Rosemary oil for hair loss? Not so fast! 🌿 While it's often touted by doctors, trichologists and naturopaths online as a natural remedy that works as well as Minoxidil, I don't usually recommend it for a few reasons:

1️⃣ Lack of consistent evidence: All of the internet hype seems to be a misunderstanding of a single study: Rosemary oil vs minoxidil 2% for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia: a randomized comparative trial. A lot of people talking about this study seem to be basing their opinion on the abstract, and assuming the study must be good since it was published in a peer-reviewed journal.

To learn about the dodgy issues with this study that everyone seems to be quoting but no one seems to have actually read critically check out https://labmuffin.com/does-rosemary-oil-work-for-hair-growth-the-science/?utm_campaign=coschedule&utm_source=facebook_page&utm_medium=Dr.%20Jen%20Newell%2C%20ND

2️⃣ Rosemary was compared to 2% Minoxidil rather than 5% which is typically recommended in a clinical setting for greater efficacy. Most dermatologists don't recommend less than 5% Minoxidil when treating hair loss because the 2% concentration delivers lack lustre results. So saying rosemary is as effective as 2% Minoxidil really isn't that impressive.

3️⃣ Potential irritant : Essential oils contain allergens and irritants, and these could actually make hair loss worse. Rosemary oil has camphor, carnosol and cineole, which have been reported to be irritating and allergenic for some people.

4️⃣ Root cause matters: Hair loss often has deeper root causes like autoimmune conditions, nutrient deficiencies, or stress. A holistic approach that targets these factors is more effective than topical oils alone.

It's also worth considering that hair loss treatments mostly work by helping you keep your current hair and making it thicker. The longer you try out less proven remedies and delay using more proven treatments, the worse the outcomes will be.

Remember, treating hair loss is not a one-size-fits-all—let's focus on personalized, evidence-based solutions that work for YOU! 💪✨

After a long Labor Day weekend, your skin might be feeling as tired as you are! 🥂 Late nights, BBQs, and a few too many cocktails can lead to the dreaded hangover face—think dullness, puffiness, redness, and dryness. But don’t worry, a little TLC can bring your skin back to life! 🌟⁣

✨ Labor Day Hangover Face Recovery ✨⁣

1️⃣ Hydrate: Kickstart your morning with lots of water to rehydrate and balance your skin’s pH. 💧⁣

✨ Discover the power of exosomes at Connected Health & Skin! 🌟⁣

What are exosomes?⁣
Exosomes are nanoparticles released by nearly all cells in the human body, and skin cells have their very own kind of exosomes. They contain various lipids, proteins, amino acids, peptides, growth factors, and genetic material. ⁣

They work by communicating and transmitting signals between cells.⁣
You can think of them as messengers sending signals to unhealthy cells, triggering them to regenerate. In other words, exosomes prompt the body’s natural healing process.⁣

Exosome therapy involves the application of topical exosomes (in the form of what looks and feels like a serum or gel) after treatments like resurfacing lasers or microneedling. I like to think of exosome therapy as the cherry on top of in-office treatments because it can only be done in conjunction with one — never on its own.⁣

That’s because, although exosomes are nanoparticles, they cannot pe*****te skin on their own. They need those disruptions in the superficial layer of skin to start communicating with skin cells. Otherwise, they’d just sit on the surface of your skin doing nothing.⁣

How do exosomes benefit the skin?⁣
As we get older, our skin cells start to atrophy, and our bodies produce fewer exosomes — similar to how we experience a decrease in collagen production. This leads to sagging, fine lines, and wrinkles. Exosome therapy allows new exosomes to swoop in to help wake up inactive skin cells and older exosomes so they can get back to work to repair, strengthen, and rejuvenate skin. ⁣

In the process, exosome therapy increases collagen and elastin production, improves wound healing, and decreases pigment production. As a result, skin becomes plumper, firmer, brighter, and smoother. ⁣
You’ll be able to see improvements within two to six weeks following the treatment. The cool part is exosomes are continually active over a period of six to eight months post-treatment.⁣

💧Sorry, I don’t make the rules—but I’m here to help you follow them! 😉⁣

🦋 Consistency is Key: Your skincare regimen, in-person treatments (if you can swing it), clean eating, daily supplements—these are all crucial pieces of the puzzle. When we start to slack, our progress often slips too. Remember, acne isn’t something we cure; it’s something we manage. Stick with it—you’ve got this! 💪🏼⁣

🦋 Trust the Process: I can’t stress this enough! There will be ups and downs on your journey to clear skin. Most people experience purging at some point—it’s tough, but it’s part of the process. We might need to make adjustments along the way (too dry, too oily, or just needing a new approach), but staying the course is key. Trust me, it will be worth it!⁣

🦋 Embrace the Changes: Clear skin isn’t just about one magic product; it’s a combination of many small but important changes. New products, dietary tweaks, lifestyle shifts—these are all necessary steps. I can guide you, but it’s up to you to take these changes seriously. ⁣

Remember, good things never come easy, but you’ve got this, and I’m here cheering you on every step of the way! 🤍⁣

Why do I love retinaldehyde for managing rosacea? ⁣
Let me explain why products with retinaldehyde so often appear on my treatment plans:⁣

1️⃣ Reduces Redness: Retinaldehyde is clinically proven to reduce inflammation, which helps calm the redness and irritation commonly associated with rosacea (Escalas-Taberner et al., 2021).⁣

2️⃣ Strengthens the Skin Barrier: It enhances the skin’s barrier function, improving resilience and reducing sensitivity—essential for those with reactive skin (Saurat et al., 1994).⁣

3️⃣ Gentle Yet Effective: Unlike other retinoids, retinaldehyde is less irritating while still promoting cell turnover, making it perfect for sensitive, rosacea-prone skin (Aubert et al., 2010).⁣

4️⃣ Improves Overall Skin Texture: Regular use of retinaldehyde smooths rough skin and refines pores, contributing to a more even and healthy complexion (Pisella et al., 2000).⁣

✨ Backed by science and tailored for sensitive skin, retinaldehyde is a game-changer! ⁣

🥕✨ Carrot Salad for Hormonal Acne? Let’s Get Real! ✨🥕⁣

Seeing all the hype about eating raw carrot salad to cure hormonal acne? 🙄 While carrots are packed with nutrients, they won’t magically fix your hormonal acne. Here’s why:⁣

1️⃣ Hormonal Imbalance: Hormonal acne is driven by hormone fluctuations like testosterone. Sorry, carrot salad doesn’t fix that.⁣

2️⃣ Nutritional Value: Carrots are rich in vitamins A & C, which are great for skin health, but they won’t target acne directly (Diwakar et al., 2014).⁣

3️⃣ Real Solutions: Effective acne treatment involves topical treatments, hormonal therapies, and lifestyle changes—not just munching on carrots (Zaenglein et al., 2016).⁣

Adding carrots to your diet is healthy, but let’s be real—clear skin needs a comprehensive approach. Consult an evidence-based, skin-focused Naturopath for real results!⁣

Did you know your skin can be both oily and dehydrated? 🤔
It's a common misconception that oily skin equals well-hydrated skin, but that's not always the case!

When your skin is dehydrated, it lacks water, not oil. This can lead to your skin overproducing oil to compensate, leaving you with that shiny yet tight feeling. Dehydrated skin often appears dull, with more pronounced fine lines, and might even feel rough to the touch.

Here's how to address oily and dehydrated skin:
💧 Focus on hydration: Use a lightweight, hydrating serum with ingredients like hyaluronic acid to replenish your skin's moisture.
🧴 Choose the right moisturizer: Opt for an oil-free or non-comedogenic moisturizer that locks in hydration without adding excess oil.
🚫 Skip the harsh cleansers: Over-cleansing can strip your skin of its natural oils, leading to more dehydration and excess oil production.

Balancing your skin's moisture levels can help reduce that unwanted shine while keeping your skin healthy and glowing!

Yes!⁣

Clouds filter out sunlight but not UVA rays, the bad ones that cause aging and cancer. Clouds only block as little as 20% of UV rays — so on a cloudy day you’re still getting up to 80% of the sun’s harsh effects.⁣

It is also possible to get a sunburn while sitting in the shade. Ultraviolet rays scatter more strongly in the atmosphere than visible light, so they can literally bounce off the air and then to you even if you are in the shade. If you can see blue sky, you are getting scattered UV.⁣

There are many factors that contribute to the health and appearance of your skin and one of the ones I speak with patients about frequently is diet and nutrition. And while I definitely avoid restrictive diets, I do encourage my patients to integrate healthy foods into their daily routine to nourish their skin.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

SWITCH TO WALNUTS
If your skin has been looking pretty rough these days, put down the peanuts and nosh on some walnuts instead. Not only do these nuts contain collagen-boosting copper, but they're also equipped with Omega-3, a fatty acid that can improve the elasticity of your skin, keeping it firm and supple.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

MUNCH ON CHOCOLATE
The right kind of chocolate can do wonders for your complexion - especially dark chocolate. The delectable treat is full of flavonols, which are a type of antioxidant that can prevent your body's cells from free radical damage - including UV rays - and unwanted bacteria. For the best results, I recommend eating chocolate that is 70 percent cacao or more.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

MAKE SWEET POTATOES YOUR SIDE DISH
If you love scooping spoonfuls of sweet potatoes onto your plate at Thanksgiving dinner, you'll love this. The delicious holiday staple is a powerful anti-aging agent because of its high content of Vitamin C. The mineral triggers collagen production, which in turn prevents fine lines and sagging skin. A study published by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that people who ate 4 mg of Vitamin C (or the equivalent to half of a sweet potato), each day greatly reduced their facial wrinkles over a period of three years.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Enjoy these simple swaps!
