Constantly researching and learning new things about the human body is fascinating. The superior fascicle of the anterior talofibular ligament has recently been discovered. As the structure internal to the joint (intra-articular) of the pair of ligaments, it may be responsible for repetitive spraining or lack of healing of laterally rolled ankle sprains by the inability to cicatrize (heal by scar formation).
Give it a read and tell me what you think of this new discovery!
University of Barcelona researchers describe a new anatomic structure in the ankle Researchers describe a new ligament in the lateral side of the ankle.
Hi all!
I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself to those who do not know me and tell those who do, a little more about myself.
My name is Lauren Erickson, and I am a Registered Massage Therapist in Toronto Ontario. I completed the Massage Therapy program with honours through Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy where I learned more than I could have ever imagined about the human body. Not only did I learn anatomy, but I developed a deep passion for the human body, the way it functions, the way it develops, and most importantly the things I can do to help when people have body pain and imbalances due to conditions, injuries or life stress on the body. I have been practicing Massage Therapy for nearly two years and during this time I have only fell more in love with my profession.
My main goal as an RMT is to help. Through thorough understanding of anatomy, my ability to ask important questions, and my passion of easing musculoskeletal pain/chronic pain I feel confident and comfortable with treating any person that walks through my door.
While I am happy to treat any condition, I do find myself having a few niches. After completing the Trimesters pregnancy massage course and placement in Sunnybrook's high risk and labor units, I fell in love with the phenomenon of creation of life. Along with the creation of life comes aches and pains which for some women can be debilitating. My passion is to help these women have a pain and stress free pregnancy. Through my second placement at Toronto Rehab in both the Acquired Brain Injury and Stroke units I had the opportunity to treat many clients in all different capacities with a wide range of conditions and body pains. This gave me a deep understanding of the brain/body connection and just how powerful Massage Therapy can be. During my two years of practice I have gained a wide range of experience in treating different conditions and side effects from pathologies including but not limited to; chronic pain, temporal mandibular joint dysfunction, lupus, upper and lower cross syndrome, piriformis syndrome, disc herniations, nerve impingements, anxiety, cancer and post-cancer, breast massage (mastectomy scar tissue treatments), fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, plantar fascitis, bronchitis, carpal tunnel, repetitive strain, sprains, strains, bone fractures/breaks, concussions, chrone's disease, constipation, diabetes, prenatal/postnatal and many more. While massage can be quite relaxing in any context, I am most well known for giving deep tissue massages. I enjoy doing a lot of deep fascial work and assessing the body in form of posture and balance to find what needs work and how I can realign for pain free movement and a better quality of life.
When I'm not in the treatment room providing Massage Therapy, I am taking care of my cat, rock climbing, rollerblading, skating, camping, traveling and of course exploring our beautiful city! (Always interested in recommendations of new places to go and places to eat).
I consider myself a very lucky person to be able to provide my services to anyone in need, and look forward to doing so for the rest of my career.
If you have any questions for me or any inquiries about booking appointments please feel free to drop into my messages or email me at [email protected] and i'd be happy to help!
