The Cornwall Skilled Trade Summer Camp visited the Cornwall Motor Speedway tonight. Things started with a pit tour meet and greet with Corey Wheeler and the 47s race team. Campers climbed the flag stand and visited the announce tower. What a way to finish the week. Thank you students and parents for supporting this great program. Thanks also go out to Claudie Lavergne and Hugh Primeau for the great program plug over the public address system at CMS.
Smiths Falls Skilled Trade Camp officially wrapped up last night at the Brockville Ontario Speedway. The girls and their parents were provided a VIP tour of the pit area, where they were able to meet drivers and see the cars up close. Special thanks to Marcel and Shane Pecore, who took time away from prepping their car to engage with the students about fire safety, carbon fiber helmets and the Hans device. A true STEM lesson as students received a better understanding of the technology and cost of racing. Thank you, Paul and Cheryl Kirkland, for being such great hosts, and thank you Tim Baltz for mentioning the skills camp over the public address system. Valuable lessons were learned this week, and lifelong friendships were forged.
It's a wrap. The 2024 edition of the Skilled Trade Summer Camp came to a successful conclusion today. A total of 60 young women participated in a variety of activities aimed at promoting skilled trades, OYAP and Experiential Learning. Thank you Mr. Doucette, Ms. Ronan and Ms. Lepage for all your dedication and hard work.
A special thanks to the faculty and staff at Algonquin College for their support and for putting on two days of fantastic hands-on activities. CDSBEO OYAP would also like to thank Kilmarnock Enterprise and Town & Country Chrysler (dealership and auto repair shop) in Smiths Falls for providing students with exceptional industry tours. Skilled Trade Summer Camp update. Corey Wheeler and the Fat Less Chipstand 47s racing team have just confirmed that they will be at the Brockville Ontario Speedway on Saturday to meet students from the Smiths Falls camp. CDSBEO OYAP is proud marketing partner of the 47s team. Campers will be proudly wearing their official Summer Camp t's.
Skilled Trade Summer Camp wrapped up activities today at SLC. Special thanks to Robbie, Stacey for helping coordinate, and the awesome instructors who led students through the activities. Kerry, Dakota and Erica, you are skilled trade champions and incredible mentors. Friday the Cornwall crew is at Algonquin, while the SF crew participate in industry tours at Kilmanock Enterprises, Town and Country Chrysler, to gain a better understanding of what welders, millwrights, auto service and auto body technicians do. SF crew will also be competing in the OYAP PIT STOP CHALLENGE. Fastest 3 teams win prizes.
Skilled Trade Summer Camp day 2 update. Great welding and carpentry projects being completed in both locations. Gardent boxes at St Luke will be used by their culinary arts program to grow vegetables and herbs. At SLC, Chacuterie boards. Vehicle oil changes on tap tomorrow, and a visit to Algonquin College.
Day one of skilled trade summer camp is in the books. Many happy campers, learning by doing. Cornwall and Smiths Falls locations buzzing with activity.

PROVINCIAL GOLD MEDALIST HONOURED
This morning, during a packed assembly in the gymnasium at St John Catholic High School, Max Antanovich and Preston Spencer received the gold medals they won during the Skills Ontario Provincial competition in Toronto held May 7. The duo competed in the team carpentry event, besting 32 other teams in the day long competition held at the Toronto Congress Centre. This win was a follow up to their gold medal performance at the regional event held in Ottawa on March 20. Congratulations Max and Preston on this fantastic accomplishment. Special thanks to lead teacher and mentor Mr. Josh Bingley, and his mentor Mr. Stephen Rymal for all their efforts preparing the students for competition.

CDSBEO OYAP is at the Skills Ontario Provincial Competition at the Toronto Congress Centre. Good luck to Maximus Antanovich and Preston Spencer competing in team carpentry, Adam Godfrey, Ethan Willet, Owen Kennedy and Teagan Michie in house building, and Danika Jones in cabinet making. Special thanks to Mr. Soares and Mr. Binkley for all their work preparing students for today.
Special thanks to Mrs McDermid and her hospitality students from preparing and hosting the annual CDSBEO OYAP culinary skills event today. Seven CDSBEO school attended including St Matthew, Holy Trinity, St Joseph's, St Mary, St Michael, St Thomas and St Francis Xavier. This year's event featured a shopping trip to buy all ingredients on a $40 budget. Judges included chef Christian Barque, Julia Graham, Linda Lofera and Christine Gosbee. The judges had the dubious challenge of judging the strongest culinary field, in the competitions history. The winners are:
Gold: Ella Doyle and Brody Henry (STA), Silver: Raymond Edouard and Cale Pettem (St Matthew) and Bronze: Makaela Powell and Rylin Gauvin (St FX).
