So we ( Vancouver Island Region Porsche Club of America) hosted a little weekend getaway at Crown Isle in Courtenay. Folks came from Alberta, Oregon, Idaho, Washington, all over BC to meet up, talk cars, drive, and raise money for local charities. Tour de Rock Courtenay rider, RCMP Cst Keeley Deley made a special guest appearance Saturday night. Through a bucket draw, donations, and an incredible live auction, these wonderful Porsche owners donated around $16, 500 ( final numbers still being tallied up) to Keeley's Tour de Rock fundraising efforts. Way to go Porsche Club

“I’ve always been involved with 'Cups for Cancer' but felt like I could do more to support kids and families affected by cancer. I am inspired to ride for my honorary teammate Amaeya, so she can just be a kid and live a happy and healthy life. All I have to do is pedal a bike with an amazing group of selfless, beautiful people I get to call my team” -

'The job is to get through it': Tour de Rock rider persevering through cancer diagnosis It's unusual for a Stage 3 cancer diagnosis to come as a relief, but that's exactly what happened for one rider in this year's Tour de Rock.

“As a mother of two, I cannot imagine the hardship and terror of having a child diagnosed with cancer. So, I ride for all the brave kids and their parents who face that adversity with hope and optimism. If my effort can make a difference in finding a cure and giving kids a break at Camp Goodtimes, it is worth every endeavour.”-

"My honourary riders are Chelsea and Sophie. I ride for them and for all children and families who’ve had a cancer diagnosis. These families are looking for hope that something can be done to help their child. Riding in the Tour de Rock raises money to fund the research that gives them that hope." -

"I’m riding in this year’s Tour de Rock to send as many kids as possible to Camp Goodtimes; a place where kids with cancer and their families can forget about doctors’ appointments, hospitals, and needle pokes. This fuels my drive to keep fundraising for such an important cause!" -

"Riding for the tour is very important to me as a close family member recently faced cancer. I know without research funded by Cops for Cancer the life saving treatments he received would not have existed. I ride because I have seen the amazing impact Camp Goodtimes has on a child and their family. I’ll gladly ride my bike if the funds raised puts big smiles on little faces” -

“I ride because I can. So many kids that battle cancer would give anything to ride a bike, but the disease won’t allow them. If I can help by riding and raise money for cancer research and send kids to Camp Goodtimes, I’ve achieved my goal.“ -

"I ride in honour of all of the kids we have lost too soon, for the ones who are currently fighting, and for the 130 in British Columbia who will be diagnosed this year. No child or family deserves this diagnosis and I know I can make a difference by riding." -

"I ride Tour de Rock because the team has incredible passion and positivity. I ride to raise awareness of this important cause in all of the schools on Vancouver Island. Tillicum school lost their Principal, Lori Burley, to cancer. She was my mentor and friend. I am riding for the children, families, colleagues, and friends who have been touched by cancer. I am dedicated to being a part of a team that continues to improve outcomes for all types of cancer." -

"I’m riding for the countless families who have been touched by paediatric cancer. It is through projects like Tour de Rock that we will eliminate this disease and stop it from affecting so many lives. I’m riding to raise awareness, funds and make a difference for my community. I’m riding to stop cancer in its tracks” -

"I ride because of the challenges many families face due to cancer, including the story of my honorary rider’s family. I ride because it makes a difference to create awareness for pediatric cancer research. The team delivers hope, and it is a real honour to be able to share this experience. I ride because, 30 years ago I got into racing my bike after losing my own father to cancer. Bringing my passion of cycling to support this important event makes a difference. I ride with extra special meaning as cancer hit close to home again. #14 is on my bike to represent the passing of Central Saanich Assistant Fire Chief Forrest Owens this summer. Cancer has broken the hearts of his family and those tough days on tour I know I can muster 14 extra pedals strokes." -

The Island Corridor Foundation (ICF) and Southern Rail of Vancouver Island (SVI) are hosting their second annual Tour de Rock Golf Classic at Fairwinds Golf Club on September 29, 2022! They are still looking for a few corporate sponsors to fill the tournament!

With generous sponsorship and silent auction item donations last year, plus the hours and hours of work put in by dedicated volunteers, the tournament raised $57,000 for the kids! We are hoping to exceed that amount this year!
Help us get there by sharing this post amongst your networks! If you or someone you know would like to donate an item for the silent auction, we would be so appreciative and HAPPILY accept.

Email: [email protected] for more info/details!

Thanks so much!
Andrea
