Heads up hockey out there folks! New snow is showing reactivity on the old crust and was only building throughout the day. Check avalanche.ca for the weekend hazard forecast as well as our Mountain Information Network post from today. Stay safe, evaluate conditions, and make good decisions!
Most aspects have a thick, supportive crust on the surface, but we did find new snow on SW aspects. The new snow is bonding well to the old crust. Avalanche forecast will be published 4:00pm Friday at avalanche.ca
Not much can be done about the weather, but winter isn’t over yet! Cold temperatures, snow, and wind on Friday will likely form new wind slab on a solid rain crust as we move into the weekend.
Good snow in Trout River Bowl today, but we had to avoid quite a bit of avalanche debris from last week’s storm cycle!
While testing small features we found some instabilities in the most recent storm snow. This is sitting on a melt-freeze crust that formed on February 12 during mild temperatures. Although the bond seems to be strengthening, there is still some reactivity out there.
