🦶🏽How could you not like feet?!

⏸️Ok, hold on, I know what you’re thinking, “this guy is weird” but hear me out. If you’re interested in being fast, agile and explosive you have to be concerned with your feet. You can not accelerate unless you push off a surface, and in most sports and for most athletes that surface will be the ground and your feet is the only part of the body that touches the ground while your game is live. What your feet do will have a tremendous impact on your ability to display your athleticism.

💎Your feet absorb the impacts between you and the ground. If you can’t deal with those impacts, you will move slower, your power potential will be limited and you will be at a higher risk of injury in muscles and joints throughout your body.

🤔During your warm up and workout it is important to consider the role your feet play in your movement. Keeping them healthy will pay off. Developing the neural connection will also pay dividends.

🫡When it comes to our training, our feet are usually an afterthought but I would encourage you to focus on them more. They are the base of all explosive movements and should not be neglected.

Attention, to all young athletes. We are planning a great sports weekend for kids in grades 1-6. We are bringing some of Alberta’s elite coaches to Lloydminster for two days of sports mentorship and competition! I’m talking basketball, I’m talking football and I’m talking baseball!

That’s right! We’re going to have FOUR elite level coaches teaching the fundamentals and concepts of not one, not two but THREE sports over the course of TWO days at the Servus Sports Centre in Lloydminster.

There has never been an even like this in Lloydminster before!

I’ve always had a problem with procrastination.

In my teens I wasn’t self aware enough to recognize when I was wasting an opportunity.

In my early 20’s I procrastinated because I had prioritized having fun.

By the time I was 26 I felt like I was too far behind. The gap looked huge and I allowed myself to be paralyzed. I again I could not bring myself to act.

Then my 30’s hit and I had to make a choice.

Are you going to be the person who never sees things through? Who quits before they start? Are you going to be one of those people who allows their emotions and short comings to consume them?

The voice in my soul replied, “No.”

I will be a person who is persistent. A person who finds a way. I will be a person who doesn’t find excuses but finds solutions. I will be a person who is in control of himself and by doing that I will be able to control what is around me.

I will be the chief architect of my life, at all costs.

Today, I ask that you be honest with yourself about what you want and what it will take to get there. Have the courage to make a commitment to get things moving.

An object at rest is harder to move than one that is already in motion because an object in motion carries more energy.

The hardest part for you will be starting and pushing long enough to gain momentum but if you can make it that long you will tap into a super power.

CLIENT SHOUTOUT

This is my client Kyson.

Kyson is a 15 year old athlete who will be competing in his first amateur boxing match in a couple weeks.

Kyson and I started working together in early August. In preparation for his fight, he wanted to improve his speed, strength and to get down to 200lbs.

In the original picture Kyson is 235 with a 40 inch waist. In the second he is 200 and 37 inches. Today he is 196 and 36 inches. This change happened within the span of three months.

I’m proud of this kid because he made this happen. He decided he wanted to commit to improving himself, sought guidance and then executed the plan I gave him with discipline and purpose.

In addition to the weight loss, Kyson says he feels faster and more powerful when he’s sparring.

So how did we do it?

1️⃣I put him on a balanced meal plan.

2️⃣He committed to not snacking on anything he could find when he was bored or hungry.

3️⃣Got him performing staple strength exercises with regularity.

4️⃣Got him performing accessory movements that build rotational efficiency and power.

5️⃣Stayed consistent. He didn’t miss workouts and rarely diverted from the meal plan. We also did weekly check ins to ensure we stayed on track.

Now that he’s made weight the focus is to continue improving his athleticism for his fight. Speed 🏃🏻and strength 🏋🏿‍♂️ are a dangerous combination for a boxer.

I’m excited for this young man to get his first fight under his belt. If he works as hard in the ring as he does in the gym, his opponent is going to be in trouble. 🥊

Ever heard that a picture is worth 1000 words? This is one of them. I made a decision that I was going to train these kids as soon as I heard about them. This was before I even spoke to a coach or player.

For me this picture tells a story about the opportunities you create when you just believe in yourself.

HOW TO TRAIN ACCELERATION

During a recent speed session with the athletes at we spent time covering my three foundations of acceleration: power/propulsion, speed of leg turnover and overall mechanics.

Power/propulsion - your ability to produce great amounts of force in a short period of time.

Leg turnover - how quickly you can complete each hip cycle.

Mechanics - your ability to reproduce and combine movements that allow propulsion and reduce braking forces.
