Charcuterie and cutting boards are a mix of style, practicality and function. Each can be a unique choice to match your décor, the occasion or for pure ease of use; there are so many possible options it is sometimes hard to decide.
I make charcuterie boards in some basic groups:
1. 'Plank' boards: A single board shaped and finished to provide a clean, simple, functional board.
2. 'Panel' boards: Multiple strips of wood joined together into a wider panel. These offer the option of combining different woods for a more stylish look or a single wood species can be joined together. Panel boards can provide greater variety and wood stability over wide panels.
3. 'Pattern' boards: These are created using a layout of multiple wood species into pleasing patterns. They require much more preparation time, jointing and finishing and are normally reserved for special occasions.
