I became a divorce coach because it is a fascinating field of study. to go through a high conflict divorce is like taking several PhDs back to back. The study of divorce is the study of humanity, everyone is impacted by it.
I have learned that there is a code of secrecy around it. Those who have gone through it bury the experience and keep it in the closet, never mentioning it again.
I am still very surprised to see that in the year 2024, there is such shame and embarrassment for people going through a divorce.
Many people do not see it as a life experience and something to learn from. They see it as a failure and the embarrassment keeps them frozen, unable to ask for help when they need help the most.
I remember one of my lawyers smiling ear to ear, as if eating a banana sideways, the second I told him the family net worth. A Cheshire Cat smile.
I fired him a week later.
Hell is sure to happen when the following conditions are met:
Narcissistic spouse
Narcissistic lawyer
Healthy net worth in the marriage, and healthy income by the healthy spouse.
Golden rule of divorce: the settlement conditions and instruments are 💯 determined by the highest conflict spouse. The healthy personality has no vote or option in the matter, that spouse gets dragged through the mud.
In common parlance, the definition of the word narcissist is either misused, or overused or completely misunderstood.
If we are not allowed to use the right language, how can we define the problem and much less a solution?
The problem is twofold. Dealing with the narcissist and the cancel culture around the word narcissist. It is considered more rude to say the word narcissist than to act like one.
Divorcing a narcissist is as difficult as trying to escape a cult. The complexity of it all is just the same
Divorce is not a failure; it is not defeat, and it is not embarrassing. It is one more life experience that can impart great wisdom.
