🏢 Are you in need of an industrial building revamp?? We've got you covered! Here are two recent mood board options we presented to a property management client for a common area facelift in an Industrial Park in North Vancouver.
Option 1: The first mood board offers a bright, energetic design that bring some life to the existing dark, dreary common areas.
We've incorporated bright greens, visual textures and sleek signage, while addressing some important functional requirements like chemical-resistance and heavy commercial traffic.
Option 2: The second mood board leans towards a minimalist aesthetic. We've incorporated warm wood tones in the signage, as well as a feature paint colour around doorways to highlight the suite entry, but all other finishes will be neutral grays or whites.

We're thankful for the engineers and architects we've had a chance to work with over the years. Aquavolt is a valued partner!
Demolition started this week on a project that is near and dear to my heart - ! Within 8 weeks, this will be transformed into a contemporary, rainforest-inspired place for Kits locals and tourists to drink great coffee. I’ve been working with Will from Viva for the better part of 4 years on the development of this project and can’t wait to reveal it in a few months. In the meantime, show Viva some love with their temporary space in the same location. If you haven’t tried their baked goods yet, you’re missing out!
Working on some drawing revisions today for a private school! Exciting things to come for these students.
A fun concept for a new cannabis retail store in East Van 🤩
We work in a 3D architectural program called Revit, rather than AutoCAD. We do this because it’s more efficient (essentially builds everything automatically in 3D, rather than 2D). This allows us to quickly pull up 3D views like these for clients. It helps us as designers quickly explore various options, and helps our clients understand scale and context of different design elements.
These images are for a new hair salon in . We have very high ceilings in the space so we completed these different options to help the client determine which walls should be full height and which should stay capped at around the 9’ mark. Which option do you like best?

Working in heritage or character buildings comes with unique challenges. Often the spaces were designed without wheelchairs and other mobility assistance devices in mind, so to comply with today’s building codes, bylaws and accessibility requirements can be tough. In this unique space in Gastown, we ended up creating a second kitchen and bathroom area because the existing spaces were only accessible to able-bodied persons. Providing the same experience for people of varying abilities is so important.
Now all we need are appliances and furniture to complete this space.

It’s looking like I’ll be in the studio all weekend, working on some tender drawings for a barbershop and some space plans for exciting new opportunities. Good news is, things seem to be picking up in the commercial real estate world. I think the fall is going to be a busy one!
If you have an upcoming project you’d like to collaborate on, I’d love to hear about it!
Enjoy your weekend, friends.
Happy labour day weekend, everyone!

As far as toilet rooms go, this is our fav so far!
From our new tech office project in Gastown. The existing space had a ton of brick, but these beauties were hiding in a storage/electrical room so we by relocating the washrooms to this location instead, we were able to expose the existing brick from 42” up. We chose this slightly blue paint colour because it’s complimentary to the warm brick, making the colours in the brick seems more saturated.

Working with to update a coffee shop on the north shore that has been a staple in the community for decades. We’re very excited to work with this Vancouver-based business to re-energize this established location. Stay tuned for progress updates and eventually, photos!

Drawing inspiration from the geometric framework of our client’s characters when in the early design stages, we translated those dynamics shapes into a patterned floor to breathe some life into this historic building.

For this funky office space we needed an inexpensive decorative feature for the wall where the projector screen was, when not in use.
They had some avid record collectors on staff and wanted to include a record player in their community space, so I thought why not make this a feature?
We had these custom record display shelves made from an Etsy vendor that I work with often. They were made with white oak to match the millwork below (which actually houses the record player when not in use).

When told me ’s brand accent colour was hot pink, I couldn’t have been more excited. We decided to keep the entire space black (floor, walls and ceiling), so this small touch of the pink really stands out.
