Sakinah Circle Vision & Values;
Sakinah Circle envisions education that leads to development of critical minds and hearts conscious of their relationship with the Creator, fellow human beings, and the natural world that surrounds us.
Our mission is to provide a learning environment and guidance that recognizes the learner’s innate nature (fiṭrah), seeks to nurture God-consciousness (taqwa), and cultivates compassion so that learners strive to become God’s true vicegerents (khulafah).
Sakinah Circle aims to nurture five critical attributes. We strive to be intentional, responsible, respectful, reflective, and real throughout the school community.

We are a KG to Grade 6 alternative program in Edmonton Public Schools.
Our journey began in 2007 when MEF approached Edmonton Public Schools to explore learning options for Muslim homeschoolers. We collaborated with an eight-week program entitled “Doorways to Islamic Civilization”, which was warmly welcomed and well attended by the Muslim community. This led to an on-site enrichment program at Argyll Center for Home Education, followed by a two-year pilot program. On March 23, 2010, the Board of Trustees approved Sakinah Circle as a KG – Gr. 6 alternative program in EPS. Sakinah Circle started at Grace Martin School in the 2010-2011 school year.
We teach the Alberta Program of Study with a Qur’anic worldview. This means that Islamic concepts and Qur’anic content are integrated into the curriculum. We have a thematic approach to connect learning experiences in all subject areas and across grade levels. Being nature-focused, historically-rooted, and service-oriented are our three pedagogical pillars.
Concentric Circles, Nurturing Awe and Wonder in Early Learning, A Foundational Approach is our foundational text, providing the pedagogical framework rooted in the Qur’anic worldview.
