What do you think in 2024?

Some banks say it will go down,
Some realtors say it will go up,
Some financial advisors say it will go up,
I think it will go ...

How about you?

No change on interest rate as Bank of Canada sticks to 5%

24/01/2024

It is time for TFSA, RRSP. Various companies are offering various promos, but after doing some research, it is to be the best for our clients.

5.5% until April 15 and you can move to the GIC1yr rate of 4.5%.

If you can keep it for more than 2 years, you have the option of using Canada life, 4% + prime rate until the end of April, and after that you can move to money market to do dollar cost.
For RRSP, this is by far the better option. Because it's long term.

If your plan is for 1year or less than 2 years to withdraw, I recommend the 5.5% promotion above.

This is a must for anyone who is about to renew their Mortgage! When Liam and Penny(hypothetically) refinance, they will save $33,561 in interest costs and pay off their loan a little over 9 years faster than a traditional mortgage.

They also now have a brrowing room of $260,000. This gives them the peace of mind they need to deal with any unexpected expenses. If you are concerned about having an open variable rate on all of your debt, you can also choose to have a fixed rate on a portion of your current debt.
Why pay less when the rate looks so high? Please contact us to discuss your options!

Hello Everyone! It is payday today!! Check your bank account.

The size of your GST/HST credit depends on your net family income, your marital status and whether you have children.

For the 2021 tax year (which pays out from July 2022 to June 2023), the maximums are:

$467 if you are single.
$612 if you are married or have a common-law partner.
$161 for each child under the age of 19.

If you are a Canadian resident and you file an annual tax return (even if you don’t have any income to report) you will be automatically considered for the GST/HST credit.

If you are a new resident to Canada, you will have to fill out a form and submit it to a local tax centre. The specific form required depends on whether you have children or not.

If you have children, you’ll need the Canada Child Benefits Application, or Form RC66. This form is for all child and family benefits including, but not limited to, the GST/HST credit.
If you do not have children, you’ll need the GST/HST Credit Application for Individuals Who Become Residents of Canada, or Form RC151.

Inflation Falls to 2.8% in June, Lowest in Two Years
Statistics Canada said the main reason for the decline was the significant drop in gasoline prices compared to this time last year, which brought Canada's official inflation rate to its lowest level since March 2021.

✔Grocery costs rose at a pace of more than 9%.
✔Rents have risen 5.8% over the past year
✔Food prices up almost 20 percent in two years
✔Mortgage rates have also risen by more than 30 percent over the past year

Mortgage rates have skyrocketed as a direct result of the Bank of Canada's campaign to curb inflation, but there is little relief for renters either.
Even though inflation has fallen, it appears to be temporary, and there seems to be no relief in sight.

Are you Contributing to RESP?
Recently, I have seen many parents who say that they are not really interested in RESP because they think their child will go to an American school instead of a Canadian school....
On the other hand, most companies that deal with RESP in Canada say, "You can use the full amount if the school is on the school list published by the Canadian government.

School list?
What is listed here is not only Canadian schools, but also schools from all over the world. Maybe you will go to a school that is not on the list, but it is better to be prepared for your child's future.

The Fed decided to raise interest rates by 0.25% at this (March) FOMC meeting. While Chairman Powell emphasized that the banking system as a whole is safe regardless of the failure of some banks, he expressed caution that the impact on the economy of tighter credit conditions is highly uncertain.

Judgments on Economic Conditions
Chairman Powell confirmed the slowdown in economic activity and indicated that the recent resilience of consumption is strongly attributable to weather factors. However, he explained that the labor market remains strong in terms of employment and unemployment, and that the number of unfilled jobs is declining, but that it will take more time for labor supply and demand to improve.

During the Q&A session, many reporters questioned the impact of the bank failures on the economy. In response, Chairman Powell indicated that the real economy could be affected by tighter credit conditions for households and businesses, as stated in the statement.

Judgment on Price Conditions
Chairman Powell reiterated his concern that inflationary pressures remain high in the U.S., particularly in services (excluding housing), which shows no clear signs of slowing, partly due to the impact of rising wages. However, he expressed his understanding that medium- and long-term inflation expectations are stable across a range of indicators.

Monetary Policy Management
This (March) FOMC meeting unanimously decided to raise interest rates by 25 bp, bringing the FF rate guidance target to 4.75-5%. Chairman Powell noted that the economy and prices had performed better than expected, but the impact of the bank failures was uncertain, suggesting that the choice of rate hike range was the result of consideration of both factors.

The statement also noted that, with regard to future rate hikes, the phrase "ongoing increases in the target range will be appropriate" was changed from "some additional rate hikes may be appropriate" to "some additional policy firming may be appropriate. The revised wording was "some additional policy firming may be appropriate. In fact, the new dot chart shows that the majority (10 respondents) expect the policy rate to be 5.125% at the end of 2023, suggesting one 25-basis-point rate hike in the future.

While confirming that policy rates must be sufficiently tight to achieve the 2% inflation target and stabilize inflation expectations over the medium to long term, Chairman Powell also noted that the impact of a bank failure could have the same effect as a rate hike and that policy rates would be managed with such effects in mind.
