WHAT IS PIQUETTE?⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Piquette is technically not wine, as it’s not made from fermented grapes; instead, it’s made by adding water to grape pomace (the leftover skins, seeds, and stems of the fruit) and fermenting what’s left of the sugars. Employing byproduct that would otherwise be thrown out, piquette can be made from countless numbers of grapes that winemakers are left with after bottling their traditional wines. The centuries-old method is known to have been enjoyed by vineyard workers and family members; it’s characterized by an exciting jolt of fizz and a lower ABV (around 4 to 9 percent)⠀

The grapes for this delicate pinot came from a cooler lakeside site near our winemaker's home in Kaleden.⠀
⠀
Very light bodied, soft tannins, wild fermented, with bright notes of cassis and cherry shining through. Complex earthy undertones are supported by a long 16 month rest in neutral French Oak. We couldn't be happier with this one. On the right day it would be great to serve slightly chilled 👌⠀

This vintage was made with grapes from the same site as our 2019 vintage: a hot little spot just north of Oliver, BC at Hidden Chapel. The winemaking was very similar, but the result is quite different. This is a fun one to try side by side with 2019.⠀

✹ Bright, dry, and juicy, with all the classic cab dark fruit you'd expect.⠀

✹ Soft leather notes with a baking spice finish.⠀

✹ A bit easier on the 'new oak' than the 2019, but this is sweet spot for us – enough oak to complement this variety, and less than a Cali Dad-Cab.⠀

✹ Its year-long rest in bottle has softened the tannins beautifully🤌⠀

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve posted anything - call it a much needed social break, but we’ve finally got our new releases available, and on a new website too! ⠀

BLANC is a delicate Pinot Noir Blanc that is probably the most subtle wine we’ve ever made, and it’s got these bright crunchy pear and floral chamomile tea notes, rounded out by spending 5 months in neutral oak. ⠀
