"Hello from sunny Saskatchewan! Saskatchewan is a province of just over a million people. We are often referred to as flatlanders as we have nothing to block our wide-open spaces or our “living skies”. For many of us, mountains are beautiful to look at and to drive through, but we breathe easier when we can see where we are going … for kilometers, and kilometers and kilometers!
Grassland covers our southern plains, and to the north are the rugged rock of the Canadian Shield plateau, coniferous forests, rivers and lakes. Regina, the provincial capital, and where I live, is home to our provincial legislative building, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, the RCMP Training Depot and our beautiful, man-made Wascana Park.
If you’ve ever seen Saskatchewan from the sky in June, you would see a painted landscape of bright yellow from the blooming canola fields and the Kelly green of the durum fields, you would easily identify our provincial colors.
Saskatchewan supplies more than a third of the world's total exported durum wheat and is the world's top exporter of lentils and dry peas. In addition to being a world leader in agriculture, Saskatchewan is the fifth-largest oil producer in North America. We do indeed help feed the world!"

Let's get to know some of our Canadian Athletes and fun facts about each province.

Caeli Mckay is hometown gal from Calgary, AB, and will be competing in her 2nd Olympic games in Paris 2024. Born and raised in Calgary, she moved to Montreal to train full time at 16. She is known for her 10m Synchronized Diving, Where she recently won silver at the World Cup in Berlin. Fun fact she is married to an Olympic diver Vincent Riendeau.

Her home town Calgary is known for the Calgary Stampede, toted as the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth. For 10 days the city welcomes over a million visitors and puts on some of the best western hospitality in early July. Calgary is also an Olympic host city when they hosted the 1988 Winter Olympics.

Alberta has some amazing and varied landscapes from the rugged Rocky Mountains, lush forests, golden prairies and bustling urban landscapes.

Today’s sketch is very linear and straight like the roads in Alberta. The road to Paris can be long for athletes, but they will get there eventually.

The Yukon has a small population of just under 46,000 so the Paris Olympics will not feature any Yukon athletes. So, the advisor from the Yukon decided to feature sailing, a sport on water to go with Fishin’ for Yukon Gold Torch Run layout.
Six Team Canada sailors will take to the waters of the Mediterranean Sea this summer for the 2024 Olympic Games. The Olympic sailing competition will take place in Marseille, France. Team Canada will be represented in four boat classes. Returning Olympian Sarah Douglas will represent Canada in the ILCA 6.
Sarah Douglas started sailing at the age of 7 in Barbados and competed at her first world championship at age 10 in the optimist class. She was Optimist Canadian national champion, won gold in the Laser Radial at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, and took silver in the 2023 competition in Santiago, Chile. She finished 6th at the 2018 Sailing World Championships. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan, finishing 6th in the Laser Radial class.
Now a little bit about where the advisor lives, more specifically, Miles Canyon, a gorgeous natural attraction in Whitehorse, Yukon. The Yukon isn’t known for its heat, but that’s what created one of the most beautiful sites in Whitehorse – Miles Canyon. Almost nine million years ago, a rush of basaltic lava spread over a pre-glacial landscape a few kilometres from what is now downtown Whitehorse. A ribbon of fast-moving turquoise water runs between the cliffs that remain.
Flights to Whitehorse take only 2 hours and 15 minutes, or you can route through Yellowknife on Yukon’s Airline, Air North.

This sketch is designed by an Advisor in BC, to represent BC, she chose an athlete that will be doing something never done before. Sanoa Dempfle-Olin will be the first Canadian ever to compete in Surfing at the Olympics! Sanoa won a Silver medal at the Pan American Games at Santiago 2023 to qualify herself for Paris 2024. In 2017, she became the youngest female surfer to ever win the Tofino Rip Curl Pro, at only 11 years old. (Just before her 12th birthday.) Absolutely Incredible!
Sanoa is from Tofino, BC, which is on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Tofino is considered Canada's Surfing capital, boasts over 35kms of stunning beaches, and year round wave access. She recently celebrated her 19th birthday on July 3rd.
BC is a popular destination for travelers from cities to the country. Prospectors flocked to BC looking for gold. This lasted 50 years starting in 1859. You can learn all about it along the BC Gold Rush Trail. It is a vast collection of well over 60 potential stops and over 1,000 kms running from New Westminster all the way up to the Alaskan Highway. 108 Mile Ranch, where I now live, is one of them. The Historic site houses 12 buildings ranging from the years 1860 - 1914 including a quaint museum. And... Did you know that BC produces over half of Canada's Wine Production? Take a road trip and stop in to say hi and have a sip! Cheers.

The first eleven posts will be part of the “Torch Run”. The Scrapbook Torch will travel across the country and each participating province or territory will be represented by a daily layout.
After the opening ceremonies on July 26th the games begin and the layouts will have Olympic sport themes – but don’t worry! You don’t need to have sporting photos for these layouts. There will also be four fun photo challenges.
The event will end on August 11th with the closing ceremonies. Post your completed pages (insert number)
