All the rain this summer has made it hard to put up good quality hay for the winter but it has kept our pastures green. The calves are looking good this summer.

We got our pork back from the butcher on Saturday and restocked the freezer. The fat cap and marbling in these pork chops make them taste amazing and stay moist when cooked. Tonight I used honey and garlic that we also harvested from the farm to make a honey garlic glaze. Best pork you’ll ever have!! If you want some send a dm and we can get you prices!!!!

The weekend is right around the corner. Send me a dm and I can get you prices.

On May 14th Miss Piggy had her piglets. This was a different experience for us as things didn’t go to plan. Miss Piggy did some things we won’t get in to the details of and she only ended up with 3 live piglets. To make things worse she decided that she didn’t want to eat after she farrowed and her milk supply eventually dried up. We had to make the decision to pull the piglets from her and train them to drink milk from a dish. Luckily for us they took to it quite quickly. These 3 will be hand fed for a few more weeks until they are weaned onto solid foods.

Calf #9 was born today to a first time mother. This heifer needed a little help to deliver her baby boy but all is fine now. He was up and nursing within an hour and he and mom are getting to know each other in our calving pen.

Opened up the beehives yesterday and saw it was a perfect time to make some splits. All 3 of my hives made it through winter and were extremely strong. So I bought 3 Chilean queens and now I have 6 hives. The queens are kept in the cages with a sugar cap and the bees will eat that away to release her in a few days. I’ll check back in about 7-10 days and make sure everything is going well. Hopefully this allows us to double our honey production from last year. We sold out again last fall so we need to keep up with demand.

A big thank you to the family for watching the farm while we were away. Calves 3, 4 and 5 were all born Friday afternoon and Saturday while we were away visiting family in Ottawa. Luckily dad, my brother and brother in law were able to hold down the Fort for me. Thank you!!
