Congratulations to athletes, coaches, volunteers, organizers and Host Committee members on an action-packed, fun-filled, successful NL Games!
I am really proud to congratulate Hady Tareq Ahmed who won the National Kickboxing Championship and is now preparing to represent the country - and Newfoundland and Labrador - on the world stage! We’ll be watching for you at the Pan American Kickboxing Championship in Chile in late October. Good Luck!

My thoughts are with the family and friends of Kevin Parsons today, a man who was admired and respected by all who were fortunate enough to know or work with him, including myself.
During his time as MHA for Cape St. Francis from 2008 to 2021, people saw his kindness and compassion and how much he cared for this province. On behalf of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family.
My thoughts are with everyone affected by the tragic plane crash in the Bay of Islands on Friday. Public servants are vital to everything governments do - whether provincial or federal - and to hear of a workplace incident such as this is especially heart wrenching. To the first responders, thank you again for being there to help.
Very exciting moment! My son Mark, myself and Paralympian Katarina Roxon completed the final leg of the Torch Run in Bay Roberts, lit the flame and officially declared the 2024 Newfoundland and Labrador Summer Games open!
A huge thank you to Nickelback for making this a special night for the Lucky Seven! The band members even invited the fishermen backstage before their concert at Churchill Park.
What a class act and what a fantastic show they are putting on tonight!
There is no shortage of energy and community spirit on the Burin Peninsula! From a community breakfast and softball tournament in Point May, checking out the bake-apple festival in Garnish, touring the fish plant in Grand Bank and sharing the good news that work will soon begin on replacing the important Canning Bridge in Marystown, it certainly has been a fantastic day.
What a fantastic day at the races! The laughter, fun and intense rowing competition at the Royal St. John’s Regatta are all highlights for me every year!
During the Year of the Arts, we celebrate Newfoundland and Labrador’s incredibly vibrant music scene and the world class artists within it. Congratulations to all MusicNL Award Nominees! Your talent, hard work and dedication have truly shone through.
A wonderful opportunity and experience for Shallaway Youth Choir as they performed at the Canadian Embassy in Japan yesterday. Congratulations, and thank you for sharing your talent and Newfoundland and Labrador culture with the world.
It is hard to believe that it has been one month since thousands of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians gathered to lay our unknown First World War soldier to rest at home. Thank you again to everyone involved in this historic, emotional moment for our province. Lest we forget.
Today, you could feel the emotion in the room as myself and my friend Alan Doyle gave “Lucky 7” fisherman David Tiller, a new guitar after he lost his at sea. Miracles do happen, especially with the support of Newfoundland and Labrador at your back.
The FFAW has made history as it elected its first female president, Dwan Street. I look forward to collaborating with her to advance our province's fishery. Congratulations!
Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are thinking of the residents of Jasper and are here to help in any way we can.
Fantastic start in Bay Roberts to Klondyke Days and the 1st leg of the NL Games Torch Tour! I was pleased to join my colleague Pam Parsons, MHA, Harbour Grace - Port De Grave this evening for the start of the popular summer festival that has been attracting crowds for nearly three decades!
A heartfelt thank you to all emergency response teams, community partners, and residents across the province who stepped up to assist our friends and neighbours in Labrador City following the evacuation order. From firefighting to humanitarian efforts and everything in between, your hard work and compassion provided comfort and assistance to those in need and exemplifies the true spirit of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Wishing my beautiful wife a Happy 21st Anniversary today. You have enriched my life, and I am deeply grateful for your endless support and the countless memories we’ve created together with our three incredible children. Here’s to many more years of health and happiness together.
New-Wes-Valley really knows how to throw a Welcome Home party! A parade of vehicles and people celebrating the safe return of the ‘Lucky Seven’ stretched from one end of town to the other. This community’s appreciation of those who risk their lives to work in the fishery is a testament to the strength and resilience of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.
What an emotional day in New-Wes-Valley, meeting ‘The Lucky Seven’ as they are now being called. To Eugene Carter, David Tiller, Toby Peddle, Jordan King, Harold Howell, Andy Hunt, Robbie Firmage, I speak on behalf of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians when I say ‘Welcome Home!’
You can feel the relief and joy in the air here in New-Wes-Valley as people celebrate the remarkable survival story of the seven fishermen from this area. Looking forward to joining Mayor Mike Tiller and others at this evening’s parade to officially welcome them home!
Had a fantastic afternoon yesterday at the Shea Heights Folk Festival - good food, good people and great seeing my old friend and former colleague Tom Osborne.
The level of professionalism and expertise of the emergency response teams in Labrador West and across the province is inspiring. Thank you to everyone who kept our communities in the Big Land safe during the evacuation order. Thank you to the volunteers who responded in a big way. This was a heavy lift and an elaborate operation, and your collaborative effort was instrumental to its success.
Our entire province is so relieved to hear that the crew members of the Elite Navigator are safe. I'd like to thank everyone involved in the search and rescue efforts.
With today's cabinet changes, your government is putting a heightened focus on Rural Economic Development and Mental Health and Addictions. As our ministers bring their commitment and energy to their new departments, we will continue to make progress for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the missing fish harvesters off our province’s coast.
We will be there to support the community during this challenging time as we continue to hope for a positive outcome.
A sincere thank you to all those involved in the search effort.
