Isle of Skye Cheviots has a select number of award winning fleeces. Fleeces are well skirted and have minimal second cuts. My sheep are bunk fed so they have very minimal vegetable matter in the fleece.

North Country Cheviot Wool is thick and strong, it will repel wind, cold and Rain. Here at Isle of Skye Cheviots, the value of the fleece is apparent. When looking at a freshly sheared fleece, the wool is white with just a touch of ecru. This does not apply to all North Country Cheviots, as with many different breeds of sheep, it’s in the genetic makeup of our cheviots. While selecting lambs for size and speed of weight gain, we also only breed animals that have superb fibre properties. We are located by Innisfail, Alberta and will ship fleeces across Canada. Www.isleofskyecheviots.ca $60 each or 2 for 110. Plus shipping costs. 3 for 130 locally. I will not ship more than 2 fleeces in a box. Sorry, it’s hard to find boxes for more than 2 you can call or text at 403-588-3808 or contact me through my website www.isleofskyecheviots.ca

There is still a small amount of VM but when I flick carded it turned out beautiful! I am offering this on a first come first serve basis and I will ship. It is still on the drying rack and I’m not sure what the weight is on the whole thing.

Feeding the cows! We all have our jobs to do in the morning. Allen feeds cows I feed sheep and ride through all the calves to make sure no one is sick. I open gates, and watch for babies along the feeders. This is only a small part of what we do during calving season. All the chores are usually done by 10.

Hello friends. I know you haven’t heard from me in awhile. I still have yarns available and will have many color ways and different weights available in the near future. I have had some family members that have needed some of my assistance these past few months. And well you know… everyone needs some help from time to time. I am woeking on a simple pattern right now by briggs and little. some of my years are similar to theirs. I am also a big fan of the saltwater books collection and my Cheviot yarn works very well for that too. If you don’t see a color you like or would like to know if I have something not listed shoot me a pm!

Friday truth! 😂

Our warm wool story!

Hi! My name is Susan Neal and I have been raising sheep for over 15 years. I live on a family farm with my husband Allen. We are a farm of about 220 beef cows and a mixed grain operation. All the grain and hay that goes into our livestock is grown here on our farm.

Way back when...( this is my fun so I’m gonna throw some of “Me” in!!) I bought into some registered North Country Cheviots to work my Border Collies on. I have been raising and breeding some of the finest bloodlines here in Canada ever since. I am not going to go into much detail about the flock itself, you can go have a look at my website and read all that information. www.isleofskyecheviots.ca

Our first experiences with shearing was to have an old set of clippers, “shave” them as best as I could and put the wool (which doesn't burn) on the burn pile. After a couple of years of this we started hiring a shearer to come in and shear our sheep. I had hand spinners buying some fleeces from me over the years and tell me how lovely it was. It was then at the 2017 All Canadian Classic when I first entered my fleece in a competition. I won Honourable Mention. Which was basically 3 in the class. I then took my wool to Custom Woolen Mills to have it made into quilting batts, roving and yarn. I was delighted when I went to pick it up and the ladies told me that my sheep produced wonderful wool. They told me that there is no Kemp or hair in any of my fleece. Kemp is a brittle weak fibre forming the residual traces of a secondary coat in some species of sheep, which may be mixed with normal fibers in a wool fleece. This hair is not desirable in a fleece, as it does not accept dye, minimising both the quality and the value of the wool.

I then sent my fleeces to Nova Scotia to compete in the 2018 All Canadian Classic. I was delighted to find out that I had won first and second with my fleece in the Down Class. I was so excited and the people who had bought my fleeces contacted me and it was really a good experience.
