Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last 3.5 years. Due to a move I’m afraid we have closed. 😞

It has been an amazing 3.5 years, and we were so happy that we were able to provide such a warm and inviting space for individuals and families to come. 💇🏼‍♀️

I hope someday to bring Modern Momma back to life, as I know soooo many mommas needed a salon like this, that allowed them to bring their kids with them to hang out, nap in our playpen, play with our toys etc.

It’s not goodbye (I hope) it’s see you later 👋

I think different generations of Mother’s teach different values to their children depending on many factors like their culture, the decade, their own upbringing etc.

Meet one of our Stylists,

Kayla and I had met years ago through her sister, and had continued to cross paths every now and then since.

Nearly a year ago, while we were all in lock down from Covid, Travis and I got talking about the next step for the salon and it’s growth. We decided it was time to add another stylist to our team. 💇🏼‍♀️

We didn’t want to add just anyone though. What was currently running was working so well we were afraid of loosing the specialness and ease of what we had.

While on my paddle board one evening, I asked the Universe to send me someone. Someone who was easy to work with, whose personality would be a great fit and who would work with pride and represent our salon as we would hope. The next day, I connected with Kayla!

We happily announced her addition to our “salon family” in time for reopening, in June, and she has been a dream to work with since, adding to the “team” feeling, we have.

So glad you decided to join us Kayla!

Meet one of our Stylists!

Leah has been with us since before our Modern Momma Hair Studio had even fully come to be! We had a vision and we had a permit, all we needed was a stylist! 💇🏼‍♀️

Cue !!! 🤗

I had known Leah a little bit from her days of working with the Monat product line in the past, so we sat down to discuss my plans, and see if it might be a fit for her!

By the end of the coffee date, we were driving over for her to see the space! She was on board and we were all sooo excited!!🥳

Leah brings with her a vast array of experience in her 11+ years behind the chair and we are so grateful for all that she adds to the client’s experience in our salon. Leah makes everyone feel “at home”. ❤️

I asked in my stories which hair struggles I could help you with first, and there was an overwhelming response to Tangles!!!

I think this is a very relevant topic this time of year, because while I, myself, am not prone to tangles on a daily occasion, spring winds, summer days on boats, and in and out of the water, can sure cause a few. If you ARE prone to tangles though, you may be able to change that! 🤩

First of all, why does some people’s hair get more tangled than others? There are a few contributing factors, like those windy days I mentioned, or the texture of your hair, but also it could be a sign of how healthy or damaged your hair is! Say WHHAAAATTT???😧

That’s right! When your hair is damaged, that outer layer of your hair strand (cuticle) opens up, like shingles lifting off a roof. Then, all those shingles poking up, catch on each other and cause tangles and matting. Repair the damage, the shingles all lay down smooth and flat, and voila, less tangles! 🥰

There are many things you can do to reduce your tangles and your damage, but here are a few ideas to get you started:

1. Always condition your hair (pro tip: squeeze excess water out of your hair before applying conditioner to get maximum benefits)

2. Go easy with the towel. Rough towel drying causes friction and damage to the hair. Let air dry for a few minutes before drying or use a hair wrap.

3. Sleep with your hair loosely pulled up/back to prevent friction and tangling

4. Use a leave in conditioner like Monat’s Restore Leave in to repair damage and give hair more of a “slip” to prevent catching on other hairs.

5. Use Monat’s Unknot Detangler before combing wet hair with a wide tooth comb or wet brush to prevent pulling and tugging on tangles, causing even more damage.
