Ancient people marked their lives by the turning of the sun and the changing of the seasons. The Irish were no exception. Modern pagans have created a Wheel of the Year to mark the quarter days, the cross-quarter days, and often include the Christian holidays that align with those times.

âCrucial to an understanding of the variations in style between the older traditional style and the modern dancing-school style⊠In the old style-dancing âin placeâ is highly regarded. A good dancer is described as âdancing on a plateâ or âdancing on a sixpence.â ⊠In the old style the knee is never raised above hip height⊠In the old style the tempo is close to that normally played by traditional musicians. The sound pattern of the dance closely follows the rhythm of the music.â ~ Helen Brennan
Another great concert with Allene and Ian.
So glad to have been part of the first concert of The Kids' Concerts at First United Church in Waterloo!

Happy Thanksgiving!
We are thankful for so many things.

Let their answers warm your heart.
(In no particular order) Dancers at Kaleidoscope Studio are thankful for:
My family
Trees because they give us air
Fall
My partner
My children
My dog(s)

My mom & dad

Just a reminder, we are closed on Monday October 14.
Enjoy the long weekend!
"Children NEED to experience what we call ârapid vestibular (balance) inputâ on a daily basis. In other words, they need to go upside down, spin in circles, and roll down hills.
They need authentic play experiences that get them moving in all different directions in order to stimulate the little hair cells found in the vestibular complex (located in the inner ear)." ~ Valerie Strauss
Tree of Thanksgiving
Starting a new Thanksgiving tradition at the studio this year.
Dancers will write something for which they are thankful on a leaf and hang it on the tree.
Can't wait to see it at the end of the week!

"Believe in yourself so strongly that the world can't help but believe in you too." ~ Kapil Gupta
âPersonally, I am not inclined to favour rigidity of the arms as I lean on the conviction that the arms played an important part in old Irish dancing. I saw an old man dancing at a country celebration. His style was traditional if anything was. He was certainly a splendid dancer. His arms swung, rose and fell in rhythmic motion, and the effect was admirable.â
