The toxic agents in particular are caffeine and theobromine; dogs and cats metabolize and break down theobromine much slower than humans. The smaller the animal, the greater the risk of toxicity.

Emulsifying: eggs help combine ingredients that wouldn't normally 'play nice' with each other (think oil and water). Eggs help bring them together and produce smooth, luscious mixtures ❤

Leavening: when eggs are beaten or whipped, they trap air. During cooking these air bubbles expand and, boom! 💥 we've got leavening 👍

Thickening: that hold FOUR times their weight in moisture?? 🤯 This makes them PERFECT for thickening sauces, and 🙌

Today is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada.

It is a day to honour and remember the lost children and survivors of the Residential School system, as well as their families and communities.

No words on a social media post could ever fully speak to the centuries of injustices, widespread violence, oppression, and exploitation that *continue* to violate the human rights of Indigenous Peoples to this day - but we have a duty to speak out against it and to demand accountability.

One question many of us need to ask ourselves is “how can we become better allies,” and more actively take on the work of anti-racism?

Some strategies include;

🧡 Listening to, and learning from the experiences of Indigenous people, both in day-to-day practice and through individual stories
🧡 Seeking out resources to learn about the history and culture of Indigenous Peoples in Canada
🧡 Reading the 94 calls to action and thinking critically about how we can contribute to this work
🧡 Supporting Indigenous businesses and artists
🧡 Wearing orange to show our solidarity, and to help in raising awareness of the tragic legacy of Residential Schools

Here we are again. It’s Friday. And we are here to share with you another great entrepreneur that is working from our facility.

1) Why did you start your business?

I originally created baking boxes for friends and family, as a way for us to stay connected (and sane) during the first lockdown. They were thrilled to receive a treat by mail, but I think I got the bigger surprise: as it turned out, some of them didn’t even know how to turn their ovens on! That’s when I saw a gap in the market – there are tons of options for meal kits in Canada, but not much in the way of baking.
As many people remember, when the pandemic hit, it was very difficult to source essential baking ingredients like flour and yeast – and there was considerable price-gouging for ingredients that weren’t even top notch. I was heading up the kitchen for and noticed that on a commercial level, these shortages were not as pronounced- so, as a professional, I had an advantage in accessing the finest quality supplies. That, coupled with friends asking to do virtual lessons, got the ball rolling for Canada’s Baking Box, and I’ve been thrilled with the response from the public since our launch in 2020.
