Bringing home a puppy and don’t know where to start???

Don’t worry! You are not alone, bringing home a puppy can be both exciting and overwhelming.

📌 3 tips to set you and your new pup up for success

1. STRUCTURE & BOUNDARIES
It is really easy to let a cute little puppy get away with unwanted behaviours just because they are cute… but they will grow up to be dogs and this behaviour will definitely be less cute. Just like kids, puppies need lots of structure and boundaries to learn right from wrong and have a balanced/calm state of mind. So yes, puppies are LIKE kids/babies… but they aren’t human, they are animals and do have different emotional needs.

2. CRATE TRAINING
Crate training is a great tool for house training your dog and also gives it a safe place to decompress and not get into trouble when not being surfer is Ed.

3. DESENSITIZATION
The world is a big scary place for a little puppy. It is a great idea to safely expose your pup to new sensations, surfaces and noises early in their puppyhood. Their brains are still developing and this is an excellent way to build confidence in your new dog. Using treats as a reward can make certain experiences (like the big scary vacuum) more enjoyable with repetitive practice and short bouts of exposure. Other things that’s would be recommended to start exposing your puppy to in touching of the feet, brushing teeth and handling… all of which will make regular grooming easier for the rest of their life.

“Let me show you the world little one 🥰”

Here is little Penny (springer/dachshund mix) in our Dog Carrier Backpack. A very practical way to give smaller dogs and puppies a break on long hikes and when the terrain is too much for their short little legs. Also great for biking and other activities.
Comfortable and safe for the dog and easy to wear! 🙌

Trying to figure out what type of collar is best for your dog???

✔️We got you!

Here's some to help find the right collar for your Wandering Mutt!

Collars are like shoes, sure they all seem to do the same thing but the kind of collar you get for your dog is very important for safety and training.

There are a lot of different opinions and reviews, but It’s most important to do research and find the best collar for your pup!

📌 A standard flat collar will usually be enough to hold a tag and normal walking.

📌 If you've got a puller, the most important thing is TRAINING! We repeat, the best way to correct dogs that pull is training! YOUR training can be complemented by using a tool like a martingale, prong, or slip collar.

📌 If you have an anxious/fearful doggie, you want to use a martingale collar. This is for your dog’s safety. These types of dogs get spooked very easily and a properly fitted martingale collar will ensure they don't slip out if they get spooked!

Follow us and we will go through each one of these collars, what their purpose is, myths and facts, and their pros and cons.

Let us know what type of dog you have in the comments below ✌️

Summer is just around the corner ☀️

Here are 5 to beat the summer heat!

1. Plan your adventures at the beach, lake or stream where your pup can cool off. (Don’t forget to bring some shade if you will be there all day)

2. Take your dog for a walk earlier in the day or in the evening to avoid the scorching midday heat.

3. Bring water with you when you leave the house to keep your pup hydrated.

4. Use a cooling vest, bandana or mat.

5. If there is a heat warning it may be best to leave your pup at home with the air conditioning and not risk them overheating.

☀️Don’t forget to check the concrete temperature before going for a walk to make sure it is safe and won’t burn your pups paws 🐾

and Saint love hiking and being around water to keep cool!

Just like humans have to prepare for hiking and being outside, doggies do too! When you go hiking this summer remember to:

🐾Bring lots of water
🐾If you're going to be on hot or rough ground, get those pup shoes on!
🐾Take lots of breaks and find shade
🐾Pick a trail with a stream or body of water where your dog can cool off
🐾Consider getting a cooling towel for your pup

Anna and Saint are excited to spend this summer up at Bear Lake, UT their favorite place in the world!

How to choose the right size collar for your dog!

Having a properly fitted collar for your dog is extremely important.
The wrong size collar can lead to your dog becoming unleashed when you are out on your adventure, which can be very dangerous and even life threatening for your dog. Not to mention that a poorly fitted collar can also reduce the effectiveness of your training efforts.

5 tips to pick the right size collar for your dog:

#1 MEASURE YOUR DOGS NECK.
There are two simple ways to measure your dog's neck. This can be done with either a flexible measuring tape or a string and ruler.

#2 MEASURE TWICE.
Some dogs rarely sit still, especially with an unfamiliar object being wrapped around their neck. To make sure your measurements are accurate, measure their neck twice. If the measurements are different do it again.

#3 THE TWO FINGER RULE.
When you put your dog's collar on the rule of thumb is that you should be able to fit two fingers underneath the collar. It is important to apply this rule when taking your dogs measurements as well for proper sizing.

#4 MEASURE WHERE THE COLLAR WILL SIT.
Every collar is different depending on the purpose, function and style. Your dog's neck measurements will also change depending on where you take the measurement. Be sure to measure where the collar you are purchasing is supposed to sit to ensure best fit.

#5 IF YOU ARE UNCERTAIN ASK FOR HELP.
If your measurements fall in between two sizes or doesn't quite match the information provided don't hesitate to ask for help. We love it when our customers as for sizing advice so that we can ensure that they get the right product that suits their needs.
