Very exciting things happening in Inclusive Hiring in Whitehorse.
Inclusive employers are currently seeking cooks/catering attendants, housekeepers, and customer service agents.
If you haven't heard about Ready, Willing and Able and how we connect employers with qualified job-seekers with Intellectual Disability or Autism Spectrum Disorder, ask your employment supports.
RWA employers understand that a disability happens when there is a mismatch between a person’s characteristics and the characteristics of their environment.
They want to give all Yukoners equitable opportunities and recognize a diverse team as a business strength.
If you are facing barriers in your job-search and do not have supports, contact Inclusion Yukon, 667-4606

I'm very excited that the Inclusive Workplace website is live! The Inclusive Workplace helps people who are on the autism spectrum or have an intellectual disability to find jobs or to work during COVID-19 and beyond. It helps companies hire good workers and build an inclusive workplace and it helps employment agencies support job seekers and employees. It's your one stop shop for practical tools and accessible information. I've been through the whole site and I'll be highlighting some of the most useful tools here on our Whitehorse RWA page.

Why is an employment program offering first aid training?
So glad you asked!
-First aid training is one of the most transferable skills available.
-It's an easily accessible 2 day course
-Many fields of employment require a certain number of First Aid trained staff on shift.
-In a stack of equally qualified people employers put the ones with first aid at the top of the pile.

Inclusion is important for everyone!
Not just people who identify with disabilities, ASD or as neuro-atypical.
Every person on this planet benefits from being in an environment where they feel heard, valued, and acknowledged.
Growth happens best when a person isn't afraid to fail.
What steps can you take to make your environment more inclusive?
At work/At home/Out socializing
An easy change that makes a big difference is changing language about expectations or challenges to "we" language, and changing questions to "you" language.
This makes people feel their input is valued, and criticism is about the problem, not the individual.
Some easy inclusive phrases you can practice are as follows:
"This doesn't look right"/"I value your input. What do you think about this?"
"This process seems challenging"/"How do you think we can make this better for everyone?"
"We like to make everyone feel welcome"/"What makes you feel welcome?"
"We want to do something everyone can enjoy"/"What activity do you think everyone would like?"
Let's talk about barriers!
What may be a useful tool for one kind of person may be a barrier to another.
Often resumes and interveiws are what stops a perfectly suited, qualified individual, from landing a job.
That's why Ready Willing & Able works with employers to find employees through more accessible hiring practices where the buisness and the emplyee can thrive!
Another qualified job seeker!
decades of experience, tried and proven professionalism, extensive training and a diverse background.
