Virtual Underground: How has this Lau H story started?
LAU H: I would say that Lau H was created by my passion for music. I remember when I was around 10 years old that I would never leave the house without my Walkman and my cd’s. My taste has changed a lot through the years until I found Techno. I really fell in love with Techno on a deeper level than other genres.

In the beginning I got involved in Montreal’s music scene by managing a live stream platform and then a podcast series called ‘Homegrown Heroes’ but that was not enough, I needed to be closer to music, so I switched to DJing and more recently music production.

VU: Where do you generally draw your inspiration from?
LAU H: My close circle of friends is a huge inspiration to me. I am surrounded by very talented DJ-producers, and they inspired me a lot during my path to find my musical identity. Another source of inspiration for me would be artists such as Linear System and Massa. In my opinion, their music is unique and outstanding.

VU: Could you describe your music selection and mixing process?
LAU H: My music selection is coming from 2 sources ‘SoundCloud’ and 'Bandcamp'. I am putting a lot of time on music research to find new labels and artists that have unique sound characteristics that appeal to me.

About my mixing process, I would say that I choose the vibe that I want to express and then I select my tracks accordingly. I like to have an introduction track at the beginning of a set and start a bit deeper and then to progress towards a harder hypnotic groovy style. I would say that generally I don’t go above 136 bpm, as I prefer staying between 132 to 136.

VU: Which software/hardware did you use for this set ?
LAU H: I use Rekordbox to upload music on my USB, create my tracklists and analyze my tracks and I have a Pioneer XDJ-XZ at home that I use to record most of my mixes.

VU: What are your next plans ?
LAU H: I will be opening up a label called ‘Egos Recordings’ in January with 3 other techno producers from Montreal. Our first EP will be released simultaneously, and I am super excited! The music sounds great and there are a lot of amazing things coming ahead with this project.

Our first EP for me is also meaningful because I made 2 tracks with my husband (collab) that will be showcased in the EP and those tracks represent a transition point for me between being a DJ to being a DJ and a Producer.
