What is the Talking Together Process?
Talking Together Program is the only Aboriginal (ADR) Alternative Dispute Resolution process in the Province dealing with Child Welfare matters.
Talking Together involves Frontline workers, support systems, extended family members, and a community Elder. Participants are brought together into the Circle to discuss family issues in a non-judgmental way. A Plan of Care will emerge which has the support of the community. Support systems maintain regular contact with families.
Why use the Talking Together?
It is culturally appropriate in dealing with Child Welfare matters; recognizes extended family/community; empower families; less intrusive; court alternative; children remain in their homes/communities, restorative, the participants of the Circle are working together to resolve child welfare issues, allows the family to heal; frontline workers share the families healing journey.
