When we're so focused on getting every detail right from flawless decorations
to the perfect holiday meal are we really enjoying ourselves or are we adding more stress to an already busy time? Perfection isn't just an unrealistic goal. It robs you of real joy and happiness.

Stress is a natural part of life, but how we perceive & handle it makes all the difference! Turn Stress into Strength! Use it don't let it use you!
One thing we can do to lessen the stress in our lives is to focus on what we can control. Often times we are putting too much energy into the things we can't control, and sometimes we don't even realize we are doing this.
One thing we can do is pay better attention to become aware of what we are thinking and what we are saying to ourselves, and why.
Asking ourselves the right questions can help. Some of these questions might include the following:
What am I focusing on?
Why am I focusing on this?
Is this something I can control?
What can I do to change this?
How is this service me or benefiting me?
What opportunity can I find in this?
What's great about this?
What can I focus on instead?
How else could I see/view this?
Ask yourself these questions more than once. You might not always get the true answer or any answer at all the first couple of times because the true answer might be buried deep in your subconscious. So, take a deep breath and keep asking yourself good questions.
Some things we can control, as proven by neuroscience, are our perceptions and which sensations we are paying attention to. We can have better control over these things by becoming more aware of what we are focusing on, how we are looking at the situation or what sensations we are paying attention to and asking ourselves the right questions.
There is an old myth about talking to yourself and being crazy, which is not correct since we are saying things to ourselves all the time in our head.
It's possible to break a negative pattern or thinking by (out loud) telling ourselves to "STOP!" and asking ourselves good questions like the ones above!
