There is nothing to celebrate this ‘Canada day’- there’s NO PRIDE in GENOCIDE.
This July 1st, I wanted to be mindful and reflect on the First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities of this land. I recognize I am privileged and with that comes responsibility to listen, learn and stand up.
I understand I will never understand, all the hardships, trauma- literal Genocide they have gone through, but I am here grieving with you all as more numbers emerge from the recovery of unmarked graves.
I am choosing to wear Orange to honour all the children lost to the residential school system. I will continue to learn, hold myself and others accountable, purchase from small indigenous businesses and donate. I encourage you all to do the same 🧡
