Backwater Paddling

Our motto: HAVE SIX - WILL TRAVEL. Spent past week on the road teaching at La Salle, Takla and Stewart lakes. Lots of kayaking, canoeing and SUP'in.
Past couple years have introduced many Northern Native bands to paddling sports, this year many Bands have bought a full paddling fleets. With few more visits to these communities, they will soon be independent with their own self reliant programs.

Nice to be back teaching at Morfee Lake (in MacKenzie) since pre-covid.

It is official, May is: "plan your paddling activity - Month". Backwater Paddling is where learning meets fun. People being asking, my boards lights are from "Actionglow". They make L.E.D. strips for skies. bikes, paddleboards, kayaks and more.

With both CASI (board) and CSIA (ski) level one skills basic program; you will soon be ridin'& glidin' down the slopes with skill, proficiency and independence.

My Final Paddling Act for 2022; a tough class day for UNBC student. Some students are discovering paddling for the first time, while others are exploring the performing difference of various kayak designs.

Last year taught mainly "Staycationers", people stayed around the region for their paddling experience. Conversely, this year the theme was "Awaycation"; many PG vistors sought Backwater Paddling for their vacation experience. This week alone a family from Chilliwack seeked a lake paddling experience on West Lake and a German couple (in Canada for 4wk) wanted to touch the prestine rivers of BC.

Hard SUP board carrying bags. A great way to ensure board protection for winter storgage and for travel. In addition a great way to keep all loose stuff (leash, paddle, lifejacket, fin) together. $100 each

Stellaten First Nation Salmon Festival at Fraser Lake providing paddling activities. A sign of a successful program done in the past, when the Band buys paddling opportunities (boards & boats) for the kids.

Another batch of certified young ladies. Great weekend at Girl Guides residential camp at Ispah Lake.

At Nadleh (Band) Summer Camp this week was a "paddling camp" at Ormond Lake. Youth and young teens each experiencing and learning kayaking, boarding and canoeing skills.
