If you have a smart thermostat, You may also have other expensive smart devices. A programmable thermostat, like other devices, uses power. Before enjoying the benefits of automation, you need to protect them from surges. The advice by any HVAC professional is that it is necessary to install surge protection.

Why Is Surge Protection Necessary?

Surge protectors keep smart thermostats safe if there is an electrical surge. It is better to protect devices as surges can have many triggers. These include some of the following things.

• Lighting

• Downed lines

• Spikes and drops from power demand by neighbors

• Fluctuations caused by a switch on and off by our devices

Power surges affect even the HVAC system. They destroy smart thermostats and other components of the HVAC system. Surge protection is a wise investment. Modern electronic devices are susceptible to the smallest of spikes. Remember that an average home can experience up to 20 fluctuations a day.

Surge protectors keep smart thermostats safe if there is an electrical surge. It is the best protection for all devices in a house. This includes your smart thermostat. They are best for areas where power surges or lightning strikes are frequent. Whole house protection devices should be on the electrical panel. It is best if it is between a power meter and breaker box. A whole house surge protector functions like a pressure relief valve. It blocks or diverts extra current to the ground. This helps to protect all appliances, including a smart thermostat.

Installing a whole-house surge protector requires a professional electrician. A professional electrician ensures proper grounding of a home. Your surge protection system will not protect your smart devices if this is not done correctly. The protection offered during a single power surge is enough to pay back for the investment. Consider how expensive it would be to buy a new smart thermostat and other devices.

Buildings Accessibility - Digital Government and Service NL 10/11/2022

Did you know? If you operate a business and plan a brick and mortar expansion, be it storage, storefront, or anything relating to your business; you are required to complete a plan review with ServiceNL to ensure your plans meet the requirements dictated in the Buildings Accessibility Act and Regulations.

This review should ideally be completed before breaking ground and delays in completing this review will prohibit your electrician from obtaining an electrical permit which will bring your build to a complete stop once you reach this stage.

Plan review information can be obtained online at: www.gov.nl.ca/dgsnl/licenses/building/
Newfoundland and Labrador also provides an online service called BizPal, which is designed to help business owners find the permits and licences required when starting and/or operating a business in this Province.

Buildings Accessibility - Digital Government and Service NL Signage Requirements Effective September 30, 2012 all buildings which are subject to the Buildings Accessibility Regulations must have permanently installed...

It's not always about what you can see. We take pride in making sure what's behind the drywall looks just as good as what's in front of it.

We had a great time at the JMOC job fair this morning. We've got our eye on young Keegan here as a possible future recruit. He walked away with a little prize pack for his efforts at the demonstration mock-up. It was good to see such an interest from the kids today.
