Do you like solving mysteries? 🕵️‍♂️ Curious about what’s inside your heat pump? Today, we’re going undercover to reveal the secrets to your system’s success!

Let’s demystify 4 essential parts of the heating & cooling process:

🔎 The Evaporator Coil
Think of it as your air’s favorite meeting place. It collects the heat and moisture from your indoor air.

🔎 The Condenser Coil
It’s the evaporator coil’s BFF! While the evaporator coil collects heat energy, the condenser coil releases it. In heating mode, the condenser distributes heat into your home. In cooling mode, it releases the heat outside.

🔎 The Compressor
It’s the heart of your heat pump system! It pumps refrigerant through the coils to transfer cozy temps throughout your home.

🔎 The Expansion Valve
Slow and steady wins the race! The expansion valve regulates refrigerant flow. Psst! It helps your heat pump operate efficiently to minimize energy consumption and operating costs.

Do heat pumps take up a ton of space? You may have heard heat pumps require a lot of room. But actually, heat pumps are designed for many types of homes, even those without much space. 🏡

For comparison, the space heat pumps require in your home is almost identical to AC sizing.

Is it time to declutter? We sometimes see outdoor HVAC systems being used as a storage space. While it's easy to do, we do not recommend it.

To keep your system running at peak performance (and avoid unnecessary repairs!), it’s important to keep it free and clear of any objects. ✳️

☝️This can prevent mold growth, rust, corrosion, pest nests, and potentially costly damage to your system.

Plus, elevating heat pump units 4 to 8 inches from the ground keeps coils clear from unwanted debris and allows for proper drainage.

19/03/2024

Happy first day of spring! You know what that means . . . flowers, plants (and weeds oh my!) are about to blossom.🌷

To make sure your exterior HVAC system is prepped for optimal efficiency this spring, we recommend:

✔️Checking the air filters as they may need to be replaced.
✔️Clearing the area around the unit. Remove any leaves, twigs, or debris that’s accumulated on top of or near the unit.
✔️Trimming any bushes or plants that are too close to ensure proper ventilation (a two to three-foot radius is ideal).
✔️Scheduling a spring tune up for your HVAC system.

Throughout the season, be sure to check up on your exterior system to make sure any new plant growth isn’t obstructing the air flow. And of course, take some time to stop and smell the roses! 🌹

If you're having issues with your heat pump or A/C, get in touch with us. Our team is here to help with routine maintenance, service, and repairs 24/7!

Happy ! We wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some of the female pioneers behind modern heating and cooling technology.

Although women make up only two percent of HVAC-related trades, the number of highly skilled women working in the HVAC field is growing fast. 🚀

Let’s meet two of these early trailblazers!

✨In 1919, Alice H. Parker invented the gas powered furnace. Not only did it burn safe natural gas, it also incorporated a system of vents and ductwork to evenly distribute air throughout the house. (She was even on the forefront of designing a zoning system!) ♨️

✨Margaret Ingels is best known for developing the “effective temperature” scale (AKA the human comfort scale!). It factored in humidity and airflow and moved beyond just a number on a thermometer to measure what the temperature actually feels like. 🌡️

Here’s to all the groundbreaking women in the HVAC industry!

Do you love your heat pump so much you’d write it a song? 🎶

Two musicians in California recently teamed up to create a song about their love for heat pumps. Mike Roberts and Will Hammond Jr. combined their passion for climate change solutions into a song that champions the planet-friendly power of heat pumps. 🌱

And now a decarbonization nonprofit wants to help them turn their song into a music video! 🎸

We know heat pumps rock. If you’re looking to upgrade or make the switch, we can help get your heat pump groove on!

12/03/2024

Ready for a little spring cleaning? 🌼 Don’t forget to give your HVAC system some attention! The pros recommend you schedule a heat pump tune up with a professional technician at least once per year.

Spring is a good time for a tuneup so you know your system is good-to-go before summer heats up. 😎

Looking for a trusted local HVAC service company? We are proud to be an authorized Home Depot installer. We’re here to ensure your indoor temps are comfy for every season!

Want to put the “savings” in Daylight Savings Time? This news will put a spring in your step! 🐇

As we spring forward on March 10th, you can save on your home comfort. DST means more daylight. AKA an extra hour of warmth from natural light, which reduces the amount of heating necessary to keep your home cozy.

☝️That’s about 30 heating hours per month you’ll be saving until the summer months begin!

Pro Tip: If your HVAC system is not equipped with a smart or Wi-Fi enabled thermostat, you’ll likely need to reset its clock manually to ensure temperature schedules activate when you want them to. 🔔

To save on your HVAC system and enjoy continual home comfort—reset it and forget it on daylight savings! ☀️

How would you rate your system’s heating & cooling efficiency? 📋 Hint: There’s more than one number to factor in!

Heat pumps receive 2 efficiency ratings because they heat and cool. Both ratings can help give you an idea of how much money you could save on home energy bills.

Consider these ratings when upgrading or switching to a new heat pump:

✅ Heating Seasonal Performance Factor (HSPF) rates heating efficiency. In general, look for heat pumps with an HSPF rating of between 8 and 10.
✅ Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) lets you know how energy efficient the heat pump is at cooling your home. Most newer models have a SEER rating of at least 13, but the scale goes as high as 21.

Additional factors can come into play, but typically the higher the number, the more efficient the system. 👍

Did you know ceiling fans come in handy during winter? ☃️

Sure, the cooling breeze from a ceiling fan is great during summer. But you can also use ceiling fans in winter to enhance the warmth and comfort of your home.

Switch your fan setting to “reverse” mode so the blades rotate clockwise. The blades will now push air up, helping the fan to better distribute heat. ♨️

P.S. Don’t forget to switch your fans back in summer if you want to beat the heat! 🥵

Do a heat pump and air handler need to be installed together? Short answer—yes.

While it’s possible to replace a heat pump and use the same air handler, the units must match. 🧩 Some may work together, but others will not be compatible.

Improperly matched units can create undue stress on your system, result in premature failure, and dramatically reduce efficiency by at least 30 percent.

The bottom line? A mismatched system might work, but you’ll pay a lot more to use it. 💸

Have a question about your heat pump or air handler? 📲Call us at 1-888-512-0230 or drop us a message!

What’s the best way to show your heat pump some love? Set it & forget it!

That’s right, set your heat pump at a moderate temperature (somewhere around 20°C to 22°C) and leave it alone.

Trust us, your heat pump won’t feel ignored this Valentine’s Day. 😉 So save the flowers and box of chocolates for your special someone instead! 💝💐

12/02/2024

Do you feel cooped up in winter? 🌨️ You’re not alone! On average, we spend a whopping 90% of our time indoors.

So, our indoor environment plays an important role in our health.

Heat pumps are great air purifiers. They essentially clean the air that comes into your home by filtering out airborne pollutants. Goodbye dust, dirt, allergens, smoke, and even bacteria and viruses! 🦠

By reducing airborne issues, heat pumps can help people manage allergies and enjoy better indoor air quality. 🏡

09/02/2024

How do heat pumps work? In a nutshell, heat pumps can heat and cool your home. 👊

The process is slightly different depending on the type of heat pump. Here’s how an air-source heat pump gets the job done:

❄️ During the winter, it absorbs heat from outside and releases it inside to heat your home. (Yep, there’s heat out there even in winter!)
☀️ During the summer, it acts like a super efficient air conditioner by moving heat from inside your home to the outdoors, leaving your home cool and comfortable

Since a heat pump transfers thermal energy (unlike other methods of heating, think oil furnace or gas), they are much more energy-efficient as well!

07/02/2024

Is your cozy air escaping? 🪟💨 You may have “air leaks.”

As homes settle and shift, it's common to discover gaps or openings in your home where air can escape (or seep in).

On top of making your house stuffy in summer and drafty in winter, air leaks can overwork your system and raise your utility bills. 🥵🥶

So what’s an easyish fix? Seal the nooks and small gaps in your house with common air sealants like caulk, weatherstripping, or spray foam.

Feeling more than a draft? We specialize in heat pump and furnace installation, service, and maintenance! Message or call us at 1-888-512-0230. 👍

Do heat pumps require a backup heating system to keep your home comfy? ❄️

Many cold climate heat pumps can effectively handle -30C without needing a backup heat source.

Not all heat pumps are built alike, though!

A home assessment is the best way to ensure your new heat pump is correctly sized to fit your home heating needs to a T. 👌

Our home comfort experts can help guide you in making the right choice for your home.

02/02/2024

Which option best describes a heat pump’s noise level? (The answer may be surprising!) 📢

A. Casual conversation
B. Light rainfall
C. Bird calls

Congrats if you answered D...all of the above! 🏆

The noise from an outdoor heat pump unit is minimal, in some cases as low as 51 decibels. Most indoor units have sound level ratings between 18 and 30 decibels.

So you can enjoy comfy temps in peace!
