Have you heard the term Hydroponic cannabis growth but aren't exactly sure what it means or how it differs from traditional soil growth? Pacificanna’s got your answers.

In simple terms, Hydroponic w**d refers to any cannabis that is grown without the use of soil. In place of soil, growers use a mineral nutrient solution in a water-based solvent or (less frequently) clay pebbles and sand.
So why use a Hydroponic system instead of soil?
Well there are many benefits to skipping soil! Hydroponics facilitate easier nourishing of the cannabis plants over time. These nutrient-dense solutions allow for more precise dosing and direct feeding of the plants in a hydroponic grow system. The roots of the plant directly absorb the administered nutrients, often making growth a more efficient process. Also, a well looked after hydroponic garden may exhibit a growth rate that is, “between 30% and 50% faster than that of a soil plant”. The combination of nutrients, water, and oxygen in the roots are responsible for this faster rate of growth in hydroponic systems. An extra added benefit to Hydroponics is that they are way less likely to attract pests that would typically invade outdoor, soil-based plants.
Sound too good to be true? Let’s talk some disadvantages of growing hydroponically:
First, there’s just the chance of more things can go wrong. Hydroponic systems can expose the roots to damage if there is a pump failure, disease, change in PH level or you run out of water. Part of the time investment involves ensuring the health of the plants. If one cannabis plant in a hydroponics system becomes diseased, the entire crop may fail and die. Hydroponic systems are also costly to set up and maintain and require more equipment and space than a traditional soil grow. For these reasons, they may not be ideal for those just starting out in growing, but are a fantastic alternative to soil for those looking to up their ganja-game.

The best TIPS for keeping the quality of your Cannabis!

At Pacificanna, we know that when you take home your cannabis, you want to keep the quality even after opening your container. Our budtenders provided our best tested tips for storing your bud!

1. heat and light are no friend to your cured cannabinoids so make sure to store your w**d in a cool, dry place away from the direct sun (try the closet or drawer).

2. Store in a clean, opaque glass containers (they have a neutral charge so your trichomes won’t fall off) and the less light that gets through the jar, the better!

3. Humidity packs are best friends with your bud, so always have a Boveda pack handy and ready if your w**d didn’t come with one!

4. Minimize how often you take the ma*****na out of its container. Keep the lid sealed tight and don’t store small amounts of w**d in large jars to minimize oxygen exposure which will dry out your flower.

5. This last one might seem obvious but store your strains separately to keep the individual terpene profile!

This week we’re celebrating Rachael, one of our full time Jubilee employee. Since starting in the beginning of the summer, Rachael has learned lots about the products and has completely fallen in love with everything cannabis!

“Hey, I’m Rachael and my staff pick is the CBD Eucalyptus BATH BOMB by .care! I didn’t know how relaxing a bath could be until I tried these amazing bath bombs by nuance. With 100mg of cbd, they not only leave my skin feeling silky smooth but my body completely drained of stress and tension. I also have to mention how relaxed my muscles felt after! The only way I can describe it is, it feels like you’re sitting in a hot tub after having one of the best massages of your life, absolute bliss. FULL SPECTRUM V**E CARTRIDGES:

What are they?

Full spectrum carts have no official definition provided by regulators in Canada, allowing for some variability in opinion. For clairity, we will be using the definitions provided by who have developed their definition of full spectrum from an in-depth analysis of peer-reviewed scientific articles. They define full spectrum as, “cannabis oil that is never reformulated after undergoing the extraction process. This definition encompasses a few important criteria for Pure Sunfarms:

* The initial input going into extraction begins with strain-specific, whole dried flower,
* The resulting cannabis oil draws the naturally-occurring components (i.e. cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, etc.) from the original dried flower,
* There is no reformulation of the cannabis oil after extraction, and
* Nothing is added into the final product (i.e. no botanical ingredients, no flavouring agents, no thinning agents, no additional terpenes

How does this differ from distillate v**es?

“Distillate is product resulting from the further processing (distillation) of cannabis extract. This process increases the concentration of cannabinoids and often removes any undesirable plant matter, including tanins and waxes. Flavonoids, terpenes, and other compounds characteristics of the original dried flower are removed in favour of concentrating CBD or THC. This results in a product which is high in potency of cannabinoids.”

Making the right choice for you is important!
Distillates offer consistency and standardization whereas full spectrum may have varying effects with each batch of cannabis. Distillates also offer variability in terms of flavours and scents as they can be infused with these specific terpenes.
Full spectrum offers the appeal of a full, natural plant with the enhanced benefit of the entourage effect(“the sum of all the parts that leads to the magic or power of cannabis.”)

Have you ever wondered how some of your favourite w**d strains get their hilarious names?

Every cannabis breeder has a different method for naming their unique creation.

A huge part of the naming process these days is combining the parent strains (aka Blueberry x White Widow = Berry White) to show the genetic lineage of the new creations.

Other times a strain’s name is representative of the effects it gives its growers. "So many times, we've finally got to the end of a strain, and we have it right there and it's done, and we're like, 'What do we call it?'" one of the co-owners of Amsterdam's DNA Genetics, a cannabis seed bank, told the La Times in July 2014. "And we sit there, and we call all our friends and smoke. That's a brainstorm session." An example of this is Blue Dream which combines Blueberry and Haze to create an uplifted, “dreamy” mental state.”

Another way to name a strain would be by any stand out physical characteristics. For example, Grandaddy purple and Key Lime Pi are all named for their physical traits like an abundance of colorful purple leaves for Grandaddy purple or a powerful fruity, doughy aroma for key lime Pi.

Finally, a strains name can be a homage to a historical cannabis figure, like Jack Herer (the cannabis activist) or Ringo’s Gift (named for the CBD strain breeder).

Topicals are any product that is applied directly to the skin, nails or hair and cannabis infused topicals are just that, topicals infused with (typically) CBD, THC, or a combination of the two. The cannabis extracts are absorbed through the skin and bind to a variety of cannabinoids receptors( CB2) in the immune system and other areas of the body.

Now here’s one important distinction between inhalation/ingestion of cannabis and the application of cannabis topicals. Even if a topical contains active THC, it very likely won’t induce that intense “high” you’d get from smoking or ingesting cannabis. With (most) topicals, cannabinoids can’t breach the bloodstream and only slightly pe*****te the skin for localized relief of symptoms.
Different topicals have different potential benefits to offer depending on the way they are processed and the ingredients that are used, so we recommend trying out various products to see what works for you. Just always remember to start low and go slow with any cannabis product, including topicals.

For my staff pick so have decided to choose ‘s Platinum grapes. This flower is brand new to the shop, and since picking it up for my first time It has instantly become my favourite flower on the market!

Not only does it have a high THC content at 27% and almost 4% terpene levels, the buds are a gorgeous purple and green with a thick coat of frost on top. As soon as you open the bag your nose is hit with a fruity, pungent, mouthwatering scent - and the taste is just as spectacular!

One thing I love about as a company is their quality and transparency. Every plant is handled with care, and on backs of packages they include anything you could ever want to know about that flower and how it got to you. Heard the word Terpenoids or Terpenes floating around but not sure what it means; we’re here to help!

Terpenes are defined as, “highly aromatic compounds that determine the smell of many plants and herbs.”

So put in Stoner terms, they’re what give your super lemon haze the citrus zest or your Northern lights haze that pungent earthy/peppery scent. Put simple, they’re what make your w**d strains smell, taste and work different from each other.

The theory so far is that while terpenes don’t usually cause any strong psychoactive effects(some are considered psychoactive only because they technically effect the brains) they do work with cannabinoids(THC/CBD/etc..) to Enhance and produce the effects people feel with each strain.
This could explain why two strain with the same THC and CBD content can produce such a different high experiences.

“HELLO, my name is Lisa, I started with Pacificanna in July shortly after moving here from Ontario. Essentially I moved to the West Coast and started selling cannabis (wooo!).

My staff product is the Pure SunFarms 1:30 CBD oil. I like to personally take my CBD in the morning and night. I find this CBD oil helps calm my anxiety and helps release tension throughout my body. We budtenders like to call this the "whirlpool bath effect".

This product is made up of vegan MCT oil and CBD distillate and produced in BC. It also comes with a dropper base and syringe marked with different ml so you can dose what's right for you, it is best used under the tongue.
Ratios:
0.1mL =3mg CBD
0.5mL =15mg CBD
1mL = 30mg CBD

Come into Pacificanna and try our gummies! These fast acting edibles work by utilizing the T.I.M.E method (Thermodynamic Individual Molecular Encapsulation) to bypass the liver and enter the bloodstream immediately (onset 5-15 min).

Traditionally edibles work by converting Delta-9 THC (what causes the high you receive smoking) into 11-Hydroxy THC (the high you receive from edibles) in the digestive tract. Since there is a variability in liver function, this makes most edibles hard to predict for the individual consumer. Since fast-acting gummies are absorbed in the blood stream rather than processed by the liver, they mimic the high one gets from smoking (Delta-9 THC) making it a more predictable and great alternative.
