Today is My Bassooniversary
On this day the first Friday of the fist week of grade 9 the my music teacher, Mr. Herlihey showed me how to put a bassoon together and how to get a sound out if it. I had spent the three previous days trying to make music with a clarinet. I had precociously thought with my 10 years of piano and three years of recorder, that I could get straight to making music instead I got squeaks and squawks. So I had asked for an instrument with a lower more rounded sound that didn't squeak and now I had a bassoon my hand. I knew from the first sound I got that this was the instrument for me. It was a little different, unique but warm and a inviting sound that could capture laughter, sorrow or contemplation. It has been and continues to be an exciting musical journey for me.
I thank all the people who I've interacted with, learned from and been inspired by over the years.

Pat Kelly from my band Ambers Dragon wrote this a little while ago and had me come in to add my bassoon parts to it. Apparently the other day he was re-listening in the car and suddenly had an inspiration for a video. Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRpS0tGMUoc
