Percussive therapy

What is Percussive Therapy?

Percussive therapy is a massage technique designed to treat soft tissue pain. It is often done using a massage gun which delivers strong pulses and vibrations into the muscle tissue. Basically, it’s mechanical high-intensity, high-powered massage.

Is Vibration Therapy and Percussive Therapy the same?

No, they are two different forms of treatment (vibration therapy uses vibration only whereas percussive therapy involves thumping or hammering motions in addition to vibration), their mechanisms are the same.
The vibration reduces the body’s perception of pain by disrupting the pain signals that the brain sends to your body.

Percussive therapy offers a number of benefits:

1. It increases blood circulation, the increase in blood circulation minimizes muscle tension and inflammation.
2. It improves flexibility, the vibration also synchronizes your muscle spindles ( stretch receptors) which results in a better range of motion.
3. It gives a better lymphatic flow, when lymph moves freely, the body can excrete toxins and waste effectively.
4. It offers quick relief to muscle soreness, it’s fast and effective.
5. It can also improve the muscle strength of adults and even decrease muscle tremors which can be beneficial to people with Parkinson’s disease.
6. It expedites the rehabilitation process of muscles that suffered from trauma, disease, or surgery.
7. Massage guns are also considered helpful in aiding insomnia and even reducing cellulite!
