The decay of autumn...
Who needs lawns, that's what I say!
Happy shady combo of Carex grayi, Kirengeshoma palmata, Waldsteinia fragarioides and Epimedium.
Fall colours appear on the tips of the pleached American Hornbeam.
The Deschampsia in its full heavenly glory....
What a difference a summer makes...
The Anemone of my Anemone is my friend? They may be a bit of thug but they've got the charm to get away with it.
Every cliff a painting. Echo Island Bruce Peninsula
Heliopsis 'Bleeding Hearts' looking very glorious this morning mixed in with Deschampsia 'Goldtau'. Love the way the flowers change colours over time from bright orange to deeper reds. Also has very deep green foliage.
Harriet keeps putting these guys in my models, very frustrating...
Also new Old North backyard zen garden coming soon.
Carex muskingumensis (palm sedge) underplanting Amelanchier 'Rainbow Pillar' makes a simple, low maintenance tidy boarder in this London garden. Damp but well drained.
Even rarely used side entrances to your back yard deserve design and attention. Make every walk a special one.
New concept in the works, with quick sketch up mock-ups.
Can't forget about our other milkweedian friends the milkweed leaf beetle (Labidomera clivicollis). Seen her amorously enjoying some Asclepias verticillata (whorled milkweed).
Also experimenting with Sanguisorba menziesii (Menzies' Burnet). I think it'll look nice mixed amongst the lacy seed heads of the Deschampsia.
A very happy birthday to this gritty little dynamo.
If you build it, they will come...Asclepias incarnata 'Cinderella' (Swamp Milkweed)
Quelle artiste!
A perennial favorite, Gillenia trifoliata, Bowman's Root. Native, grows in sun and some shade, great texture and fall colour to boot! Love the red stems.
Some colours and shadows in the springtime garden....
Colours and textures at this Old South lawn replacement.
I've never thought of myself as a particularly patient gardener, but fan pruning this plum is really going to push my limits. Still, it sure is cute, and the fruit will be that much sweeter in the end.
Can't wait to see the planting mature at this Grand Bend beauty. Planting carefully selected to be low maintenance and adaptable to the native dry-shady conditions. More expert and refined work by Millworks CCS.
