I recently finished a book called Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt, in which I met an interesting and lovable character: Marcellus McSquiddles, a giant Pacific octopus. And today being World Octopus Day, we had to honor Marcellus and his kind.
So, here are some fun facts about GPOs:
1️⃣ They’re big! This species holds the record for the largest octopus in world with an average arm-span of 16 ft. across and weighing around 110 lb.
2️⃣ The giant Pacific octopus is a highly intelligent animal that can learn to open jars, solve puzzles and interact with caretakers.
3️⃣ The giant Pacific octopus is a stealthy hunter that eats an assortment of seafood — mostly crabs, clams and other molluscs.
4️⃣ The giant Pacific octopus can lift at least 35 lb with a single sucker.
5️⃣ The Giant Pacific Octopus is known to be rather shy and usually friendly towards humans, rarely using its dangerous features to inflict harm.
