Active Home Needed for Rory

Every dog must have its day and that day is Saturday, August 31 at the Courtenay Outdoor Pool at Lewis Park. Courtenay Recreation is hosting a dog swim, the last event of the season before the pool closes for the winter. Bring your favourite pooch for some fun in the sun.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is $5, with all proceeds donated to our local SPCA. Proof of rabies vaccination is required for each dog, so be sure to get those ready ahead of time.

The big pool will be open for dogs of all shapes and sizes. The wading pool remains closed for maintenance, and will not be available. Dogs must be friendly to attend. Sorry humans, only dogs will be allowed in the pool during the dog swim.

The friendly staff from Van Isle Veterinary Clinic will be on site to support the safety of all furry swimmers, and Woofy’s Pet Foods will have pet-friendly giveaways.

Join us for this paw-some pool party where your furry friends can cool off, make a splash, and enjoy a doggone good time!

For more information call Courtenay Recreation’s Lewis Centre at 250 338-5371 or visit www.courtenay.ca/pooch

As many clients are likely aware, there were a number of stringent new regulations set to take effect August 1st relating to the transporting of dogs into the Unites States.
⭐️Good News ⭐️ Today the US government announced that it was dropping many of the new rules for dogs entering from low risk countries, of which Canada is a part of.
If you plan on travelling to the US with your dog, please see the link below for the most up to date regulations.

We don't rehab dogs, but I just had to share this with all of you who have dogs 😁

26/05/2024

One of the most heartbreaking things I saw regularly during my career working in animal shelters was when people had to give up their beloved companions due to illness, disability, hospitalization, or going into long term care where pets were not allowed. I talked about this recently on my podcast interview with The Companions Collective , and it’s the reason I chose to support ElderDog Canada with my Tails of the World fundraiser.

ElderDog are different from other dog rescue organizations in that they not only foster and rehome dogs in need of a permanent placement, but their volunteers also help support elderly people who need help to keep their pets with them. This might look like providing temporary fostering while the owner is hospitalized, help providing exercise, delivery of pet food and supplies, or providing transportation to grooming and veterinary appointments.

Besides raising money, I hope to help spread the word about ElderDog Canada and the amazing work they do. We have several local branches (or “pawds” here in southern NB - ElderDog Canada Moncton Pawd, ElderDog Canada: Saint John Pawd & ElderDog Canada: Fredericton Pawd, and they are always looking for volunteers to foster or provide other support like transportation, dog walking, etc. Please reach out to them if you are able to help out!

Applications for Tails of the World: Moncton 2024 are still open, and 100% of the session fee will be donated to ElderDog Canada. Check out the link below for more info on how you can support this amazing organization, and have your dog featured in an internationally published coffee table book!

‼️CHEVY LOOKING FOR HIS FUREVER FAMILY‼️
Can you offer Chevy an active home? Chevy is cherished by his owners and the ElderDog Dog Care Support walkers who have cared for him in recent years. Unfortunately, Chevy’s senior owners have been placed into assisted living and Chevy is too large to go with them. Chevy is a neutered male black labrador cross and weighs about 70 lbs. Chevy may be 11, but he walks like a 5 year old. Although he has lots of energy, Chevy is very good on leash and doesn’t pull. He loves to chase balls. His foster reports that he also loves to chase cats, so may be a home without felines would be best. A well fenced yard is a must, as Chevy will slip through doors and gates if he can, then the chase is on! Chevy’s vaccinations are up to date, and he is healthy for his age, with minor age related dental and arthritic issues which may require care over time. Chevy is affectionate and loves cuddles and ear scratches. He wants to please. This sweet, loving dog would be perfect in any setting where his owner is home most of the time.
If you have any questions or think you would love to adopt Chevy, please reach out to

‼️ADOPTION OPPORTUNITY ‼️♥️
We are seeking a forever home for Scotty, an 11-year-old, 24 pound, minimal shedding (fine undercoat hairs), Schnauzer X with a charming personality! Check out the attached pictures ♥️. Scotty enjoys adventures and is eager to engage and play with both humans and canine friends. He also has the softest, silkiest fur; a groomer friend has suggested he may have some Yorkie in his DNA.

Scotty will be having a dental procedure May 21st, otherwise his health is top-notch. He
is calm in the house but is very excitable out on walks, so greeting dogs calmly on walks is a work in progress. We have discovered that Scotty is not fond of cats, so a home without a cat would work best. He is currently thriving in a caring foster home. If he could only get along with cats, he would be staying with them 😊.

Scotty is located in the Comox Valley. For further information or to arrange a meet and greet, please connect with Carol at [email protected].

‼️ ADOPTION OPPORTUNITY‼️
Bella is a beautiful and sweet 12 year old, 25lb, miniature poodle currently located in Vancouver. Her foster describes her as an easy going girl, good on leash, and an enthusiastic sniffer and walker. She has recently been fully examined by the vet and overall her health is good, but we are following up on some urine test irregularities. She was recently treated for some mild incontinence but her medications have resolved the issue and she will be tapering off of these. She also has a titanium knee but it does not slow her down. She is fully house trained, spayed, and up to date on her vaccines. Bella is good with dogs and cats, and even lives in a foster home with a bunny! Bella is good with adults but is a little nervous around children so a home without kids will be necessary. Bella loves going for walks, playing with her plushy toys, and being out in the yard with her people. In the house she is happy to relax in her open crate or in her bed, and is fine left alone for a few hours. One thing that’s important to know is that Bella eats and drinks so quickly that it makes her throw up. She must be fed with a slow feeder bowl and her foster puts a ball in her water dish to slow her down. She also doesn't like to be startled awake so it's good to let her know you are there before you touch her.
If you are looking for a lovely walking buddy and calm companion at home then please contact Michelle at [email protected]
