The Mental Health Amendment Act - information for families 16/06/2020

Bill 17, the Mental Health Amendment Act, was introduced into the Legislative Assembly of Alberta on June 4, 2020. The Bill was introduced in response to a Court of Queen’s Bench ruling last July that declared sections of the Mental Health Act unconstitutional.

Important message from the Clozaril Support and Assistance Network:

Health Canada is not removing the requirement of bloodwork associated with clozapine treatment, but it is asking health care providers to “use their clinical judgement to assess the benefits and risks of continuing treatment in the absence of laboratory testing.” This “clinical judgement” is to be considered short-term in order to manage continuity of care amid COVID 19.
