What a fun 3 weeks it’s been with you girly!💥 We have spent a lot of time working on Penny’s environmental confidence, leash walking, manners, recall and general puppy 101!
Penny is a little ball of energy and her parents lovingly refer to her as “the goblin” 😈. She is a rowdy party girl but is actively working and figuring out the world each bouncy step of the way!

We have on going training planned with Penny as she matures into an adult dog to help keep her feet on the ground but I can safely say she is off to a great start!💥

Rupert went home on Friday evening after his extended Board + Train with us!💥
•
This sweet dude has come such a long way and I’m so excited for his future with his fantastic family and who have shown nothing but dedication, kindness, great insight and determination when it comes to Rupert and the journey he has been on/will always be on.

Over Rupert’s time with us we have tidied up his leash walking, taught him a solid recall layered with e collar conditioning. We created a strong positive association for Place as a relaxation and decompression space, as well as retraining the crate, all in aid of helping his separation anxiety and overall sensory overload🧡
•
He was such a pleasure to work with, a tough nut to crack but with the biggest heart 🧡
•

This sweet dude went home yesterday after his 21 day Confident Dog Board and Train program!
•
We worked on on and off leash skills and manners, proper socialization with other dogs and people, some drive building and channeling as well as learning when to turn that on and off. Proper play etiquette, outs and a strong marker system as well as building his environmental confidence with plenty of neutral field trips!
•
This firecracker has been a blast to work with! He’s open and ready to soak up new information like a sponge and I couldn’t be more excited for these two and the bright future ahead of them!

Moose went home yesterday after his extended Board + Train with us and I couldn’t be prouder of not only his progress but the sheer dedication, compassion, and insight his family have for him!
•
Moose has come a long way! We have worked on his leash walking, e collar training, recall and above all else revamping his social skills with other dogs and showing his how to correctly navigate a high arousal situation! We did a lot of self regulation, impulse control and handler relationship and now his family can bring that trust back into their home and continue Moose’s journey which, like all of us, is on going!🥰
I can think of no better people equipped for the job and I am so excited to see him continue to flourish!🫶🏻🙌🏻

☀️Meet our next Confident Dog student…Mateo☀️

This little dude is here for his 3 week Board and Train stay with us to get him going on the right foot in life, set up some good foundations and start building the groundwork for a sport dog lifestyle!
Mateo is a 6 month old American Bully/Staffy mix which is a different change of pace from the herdy boys we’ve got used to having around here and I’m super excited to dive in and see what this little beefcake is all about!

People forget that the only thing that truly matters is the relationship you have with your dog 🤷🏻‍♀️ let’s feed that energy instead✨

Yes, I consider myself balanced, use tools and feed raw. I also play with my dogs every day, let them chase deer off the property, don’t mind when they bark at strangers and bring them on the couch or bed for snuggles before bed

We have available spots opening up in our Pack Hike program for new clients!🌿

This program is run by my assistant trainer and Canine handler .k9 and runs weekday mornings. These are 1.5 hour off leash adventures for your canine companion where he gets a chance to stretch his legs and socialize in a well maintained pack dynamic. Pick up and drop off from your home is included within the Vernon and Armstrong areas.
The dogs are exercised on our private property and we host packs of maximum 7 dogs at a time. Our focus is on maintaining a structured, fun environment and upholding and honing skills such as appropriate playing with other dogs and recall.🌼

All new dogs are required to participate in an initial Meet and Greet as well as a trial hike prior to being enrolled, to ensure they are a good fit for the program.
Cost: $30/hike with a monthly commitment of minimum 1 hike per week with the option of adding drop in hikes once we are familiar and comfortable with your dog.

Introducing our newest Board + Train student: Moose!
•
Moose is a young Australian Cattle Dog X who is here for the next 21 days to work on his confidence in new environments, learning how to re-navigate social situations with other dogs, and working through his prey drive linked impulse control. 🫎

We are super excited to work with you buddy and cannot wait to see your progress!

✨TAZ✨
is looking for a new home!
•
Taz was born May, 2023. He is a CKC registered Australian Shepherd.•
Taz was placed in a home as a puppy where unfortunately he did not flourish. He struggled with reactivity and anxiety in the urban setting and, although his owner tried to make it work, it just wasn’t the right fit. Taz was returned to the breeder who then set up Taz as a Board and Train student (turned Foster) with us!
We have had Taz now for just over two months and have made large strides in his training.

✨ E collar trained
✨ Great on leash and has a fantastic heel
✨ Very reliable off leash and has great recall
✨ Good with dogs
✨ Good with people
✨ Excellent foundational obedience
✨ Raw fed

🫶🏻 Bikes/runners/skateboards will occasionally still trigger Taz but he has come a long way and his recovery time is minimal
🫶🏻 Taz would prefer to be in a home with older children (above 10) as younger, louder children make him anxious
🫶🏻 Although Taz lives with cats here and has come along way with his impulse control, living with cats in the future would require some special attention and extra help at the beginning until he is used to them.
🫶🏻 Taz requires someone who is comfortable and capable of maintaining his balance trained lifestyle.

Taz is a great dog, he is extremely affectionate and cuddly. He is a lower/medium energy dog (especially for an Aussie) and has low/medium drive. So, although he does need daily exercise he is also happy for off days to be spent cuddling on the couch!
I believe, although he could adjust with the right person and continued training, that Taz would be more suited to country living over city streets.
He can be a nervous boy but flourishes with consistency, boundaries and love.
Taz would be an excellent dog for anyone wanting an all around adventure AND Netflix buddy.
Taz will have ongoing support from us at The Canine Hub through and beyond his adoption process.

Fridays 12th, 19th, 26th 4pm-6pm we will be hosting an UPDOG drop in class to go over all of the games (minus the crossover agility games and Far Out) in UPDOG.

Each week we will review 2 games, give a demo, walk it through, discuss strategies and give everyone a chance to practice and problem solve!

We want this to be beginner friendly and relaxed; the ideal setting for people to get comfortable playing the games!💛 And if you can’t make all 3 days, that’s fine too, come to the ones you can!

Introducing TAZ as our next Confident Dog✨

This handsome boy was returned to their breeder after not fairing so well at his new home. He “lacked confidence” and would “react out of fear” when out and about with his owner - particularly to cyclists, runners and other dogs while on leash.

We have had the pleasure of getting to board Taz over the past few weeks prior to his board and train which has been extremely helpful in building a foundation and trust basis and now over the next 21 days the “actual” work begins!🥳

We had Sully’s Graduation and Go Home Session on Tuesday, and I couldn’t be more proud of how well he did! Using play and obedience to navigate his high drive needs and structuring his day with consistent boundaries, I am more then confident in his continued success!

Couple things to note about this season:

~ It is a 60 second season, (for those of you who played in the Fall 2023 which was a 90 second season) this is 2 rounds of 60 seconds where ALL CATCHES COUNT (not just your top 5).

~ This season will take place on Saturdays 3pm, starting on April 20th. The one exception to this will be on Week 2 where it’ll be the Friday (the 26th) as Kyle and I will be at Kelowna’s Carnival Trial on the weekend. We totally understand 3pm might not work for everyone on a weekday so this can be flexible depending on what everyone wants to do.

~ For those of you that attended last season, although we will be playing on the same field as previously, it will be a different part of the field (right when you turn off from the road). For those of you who have not been to our property before I will include a site map on the info email that will be going out closer to the date!

The Confident Dog - Board + Train
•
We are so excited to officially launch our Confident Dog Board and Train Program this year! During the course of 2023 we worked on enhancing and expanding how we did our board and trains, figuring out where the root of the issues lay and how to work the dog through to be a better them on the other side.
•
That is how The Confident Dog Program was born. We want to focus on building up dogs through intentional, proactive training methods that best support a dogs ability to translate information and feel secure in new knowledge. Confidence is key!
Our goal is to have your dog feeling secure and confident on and off the leash, in and out of the home, and most of all bring intentional training into your everyday life. It has to work for YOU!
•
This is a 21 day program, and includes an initial Meet + Greet Assessment along with a 2 hour Go-Home Session to transfer your dogs new skills into your hands and home. It will also include a Herm Sprenger Prong Collar and a Mini Educator E-Collar (after first discussion and agreement from the owner about the overall training plan and goals).

Here is a breakdown of what we have planned for May 24-26 2024:

💫 Friday, May 24th - Street Smart Masterclass is an excellent opportunity to grab your leash and hit the streets with your dog! The focus will be on handler focus, relationship building and tuning up those leash and general manners skills in a public setting! Suitable for all dogs, all ages as long as vaccinations are up to date.
•
💫Saturday, May 25th - A full day of Disc! This stacked seminar is ideal for anyone looking at getting into the sport of disc and Updog! You will learn everything from the basic foundations and different throwing styles to Updog game and strategy!
•
💫Sunday, May 26th - “It’s Only the Beginning” is Armstrong Disc Dog’s first official mini Updog trial and we couldn’t think of a better way to round out the weekend! After a weekend of skills building this is an excellent opportunity for newbies to the sport to get their trial feet wet! Come play with us!✨

Registration for the whole weekend will be open starting February 1st, 2024. Each day must be entered separately; this is to give people the opportunity to pick and choose what they would like to participate in.
