What’s the difference?

I wanted to explain to clients a little more about what terminology you can be using in the salon to get exactly what you’re looking for!

For sure, photo references and inspo is always best to give us a visual of what it is you’re looking for, but if you know your terms properly it makes it 100% easier!

Highlights have been a staple through the years. There’s so many different techniques. From chunky highlights like we saw back in the 2000’s to more customized and blended looks we now see today. Either way they add a little bit of brightness to a look.

Baby lights are the best route to go for complete blending. Whether you want to go full blonde or add some super subtle brightness to an overall look, these are the way to go.

Balayage, oh balayage. The word nobody can say😂 this look is best for lower maintenance girlies who don’t want to see roots after a few weeks. This hand-painted technique is specially designed to give customized brightness and dimension while still being as natural or as unnatural as you please.

Keep in mind, you can always add a root smudge to highlights or baby lights. Which I will also do a post on explaining.

We should not be shaming any of our clients for not coming in “on time”. It is our job to know exactly how to handle the hair that walks in.

Just because there’s more growth, it only means we use different techniques!

We had quite a bit of regrowth this time, totally my fault since my studio wasn’t finished yet!

I wanted to point out, as stylists, we should not be shaming our clients for not coming “on schedule.” Life happens, I understand. And as a big mental health advocate, I know sometimes self care is not on our top priority list.

Of course I’m going to suggest time for maintenance, but you will never be shamed in my chair for half an inch of growth or four! It’s our job to know how to deal with either situation.

Stylists! Sometimes toning doesn’t cut it🤷🏻‍♀️

This client has a lot of warmth that comes through. I’ve tried a ton of different ways to go about tackling her wonderful hair and using permanent colour after blonding is sometimes the way to go!

It has done wonders for the warmth that comes through and her colour lasts so much longer. The best part is, after using 10 volume, the hair fades normally in time for her next appointment!
